i think that there is going to be a picture of the knife on spyderco's site soon..guy came back from SHOT show and he is scanning a pic to post..

The Spyderco / Kershaw collaboration is a true factory / factory collaboration. The first of its kind, that we know of. We began with a Ken Onion Bump and modified from there. The long discussion between Ken and I, with Kershaw and Spyderco teams present was a fun experience.

We decided not to make it a Speed assist as it would be too close to the current Kershaw version. Although I must say that Kershaw has agreed to license the Speed Assist to Spyderco so we'll see what the future holds.

The "Spyker" (Spyderco/Kershar) is a unique piece with features from both companies. The blade incorporates Ken's recurve shape with the area from the tip to the belly being a straight edge (one of Ken's features). We added a finger choil, a la Spyderco, for close control over the blade.

Spyderco's trademarked round hole was used along with Kershaw's decending hole pattern. Two pieces of Carbon fiber twill nested into the G-10 enhances the appearance of the design.

Kershaw preferred the Walker linerlock for a lock. CPM-S30V is used for the blade. Two nested steel liners provide strength and stiffness. The model is being manufactured in Spyderco's Golden facility.

A total of 3000 pieces will be made.

All involved are quite pleased with the results. It's a very nice piece. Very functional and pleasing to the eye.

This is great news! I really like the Kershaw Bump. There were a few things I didn't like about it and have made a couple of modifcations to correct those things. However, the SpyKer looks to have solved all of those issues. I will be eagerly looking forward to this knife.

Is there a release date?

Will there ever be a Spydie/BM collaboration?

A Chinook II with a Axis lock...

After the issue with the Benchmade Skirmish I would doubt we will see a Spyderco/Benchmade collaboration. As you can see from Sal's description of the collaboration with Kershaw, all involved are recognizing and respecting the patent and trademark rights of others.

Sounds great Sal. Will the Spyker be the same size as the Kershaw Bump?
Thanks,
Matt

I did a search, but couldn't turn up anything of substance. Is there some bad blood between the companies over the 630?

This is some really great news, both on the current model and the licencing of the Speedsafe to Spyderco. :D

Not only are such possibilities exciting, but it's great to see two respected companies working together like this in such a cut throat business.

Spyderco and Benchmade had a collaboration back in the old days.
I bet no one can remember the knife.....

I'd guess the 805. That had a licensed spydie hole...
EDIT: Oops, meant the 800. Must be getting senile.

Bet we can! The one with the "licenced" round opening hole - the AFCK Model 800 or mini Model 812. Also the Ascent.

Spyderco is pursuing legal recourse. I can't comment beyond that.

OK Anthony

The C15 Terzuola was kinda a collaboration also i.e. a Spyderco collaboration manufactured by Benchmade.

Quote from Sal

"Lester had just moved his new factory to the Portand area. He was producing bali-songs along with a few models of Browning origin.

Spyderco had no US mfg facilty at the time and Bob T insisted that it be US made. Lester and I had been friends for many years. I agreed to have Lester make the C15 design for Spyderco. Lester and I went down to Bob's shop in Sante fe and Bob taught the both of us how to make linerlocks using the ball bearing detent developed by Michael Walker.

Lester went on to produce the first several runs of C15's for us. Then Spyderco set up our own mfg facility in Golden and took over production.

It was good for both Lester and I in many respects." signed sal

So, what do I win :D

Would it have been "Spyken" (Spyderco + Ken Onion) but for the fact that it's my handle? :p

If so, Spyderco has my blessings to use that name.... :D (if I get free spydercos for life hehe :p )

:D :D :D
