spyderco/kershaw collab

Glad I ran across this thread . I am really excited about this knife . Sal and I have been friends for many years and I have admired Sals creative mind forever .

This knife represents much more to me than a simple collab between friends. It hopefully shows the rest of the knife world that companies can work together ,get business done and still respect each others property.
I get pissed off to no end that there are so many companies stealing from each other and taking what doesn't belong to them . I know personally that if I wanted to I could get arround most of the knife related patents out there . But I don't !!!! It aint right . I try to respect other peoples territory and would hope they respect mine.
It's shocking to me that most people make there decisions on legal or illegal rather than right or wrong . My position is that stealing is stealing and it is wrong!
As you all know there are many companies out there that think it's ok to steal my assisted opening devices . sure some of them try to do something a little different to justify the thievery. But many just take it outright without so much as an attempt to ask for a license or permission. And then think were still buddies .Eventually I see them at shows where I get the pat on the back and the "Hey it's just business " comments .

Spyderco and Sal have never been this way . I have to say Sal has been very respectful ,for that I am grateful. I would much rather allign myself with companies who have proven there integrity than alligning myself with terrorists.

I would hope that most wouldn't teach there kids to behave in the manner that they do or to hide behind the phrase "it's just business". Business shouldn't be an excuse to compromise ones character.

Thanks Sal and those at Spyderco for your friendship and showing character in a season of rip offs! This knife collab means alot to me !

P>S> The knife is great!

Well said!!!!
This knife is so gorgeous, it's on my list.
when can we expect it?

Aloha Mr. ONION,

God bless you on this collab with Spyderco. Many people are awaiting the arrival of the Spyken, so God speed as well. As senate said, very well put. 'specially the "right is right, wrong is wrong"...Hmmmmmm.

Mahalo sir, and God bless

And resurrected it :) Hi Ken.

Actually it was most enjoyable "argueing up" a design with Ken Onion.

There we were, in a room together, with the Kershaw team and the Spyderco team watching as Eric, Ken and I went back and forth on the values of: finger choils, recurves, G-10, nested liners, steel types, assisted openers, eye candy, blade size, how to open a box, etc, etc.

Then the Spyderco and Kershaw teams "argued up" production, who will make it, when to deliver, etc.

That was truly the best part of the collaboration :D

While Ken and I have known each other for years, the detailed discussion of philosophies behind the designs was truly inspiring.

As it turned out we think we have a winner. Looks good and works well.

And we've begun a relationship (Spyderco/Kershaw) that will bring more goodies to the market.

It looks really nice, I'm not too fond of spyderco aesthetics, although the Persian and Byrd Cara Cara look alright. This one almost brings the best of both worlds. I wish it had an assisted open though as I'm really fond of that feature. Any guess as to when the next Spyderco/Kershaw knife will be coming out?
