This is a subject that has been touched on but has not been expounded upon to where we can really talk about Spyderco's little knives. I don't know of any company who makes little knives nearly as good as Spyderco does.

Most little knives are not banners of quality but rather novelty type items instead. But Spyderco puts just as much meticulous detail in their Carbon Fiber Cricket, Baby Dyad and Mouse as they do the Manix, Massad Ayoob & Police models.

Even the little Spydercos that borderline on being novelty knives such as the pink FRN Cricket, Carbon Fiber Ladybug and FRN Dyads possess just as much quality as the Yojimbo, Harpy & JD Smith. What other knife company can make that claim to fame. We really ought to be thankful we have a company that makes top quality little knives. I use little knives quite a bit throughout the week and I wouldn't use anything other than a Spyderco. I know I'm not alone with that assessment :)

I agree too...especially when you consider all the insane laws limiting the size knife you can carry...a small knife of high quality is then very much appreciated.

I agree also. I have a dragonfly and use it constantly. What a good knife every day carry knife. I just finally picked up an Assist II. Looks like it is going to be another good one. I used to have a Delica that unfortunetly I lost in the woods on a hike. I miss that knife  I bought the assist as a replacement. :D

The king of little knives is Victoronix and the swiss army line. More sold, more variety, loved by 100's of millions of people the world over.

My forest green serrated ladybug on my keychain is my most used knife. It is just so darned handy and cuts anything, well.

I disagree>> I have had many of Victorinox's knives. They are good but Spyderco's little knives are much higher quality than the ones made by the big V. Show me any Victorinox and I will show you a Spyder with much better quality. I do however have a lot of respect for Victorinox and I just love their Swiss Tool but their knives are not in the same league as Spyderco's.

I also think that Victorinox has a lot of good specialty type knives but when it comes to blade steel and handle material I don't see the 2 of them even close.

My first key ring knife was a small Buck lock back, then a Spyderco Ladybug, and now a Vic Classic.

Spydercos are good knives but that's all they give you...a blade.

No way they can compete with the versatility of the Vic.

I agree wholeheartedly. Spyderco wins in every regard! They are one of the best.. My question is, what exactly qualifies in your mind as a "small" spyderco? By small do you mean basically inneffective or undesirable for defensive scenarios? Does small mean unsuited to self-defense completely? The only "small" spydies I own are a CF PE Harpy and the inarguably tiny Warren Thomas Kerambit.. The Harpy in PE is one of the most beautiful little knives I have ever owned... The Harpy model was in fact my very first Spyderco (Thanks in large part to Thomas Harris's excellent novel; Hannibal,) and after that purchase I have bought from no other manufacturer than Spyderco... I mean, come on! A good spyderco folder large or small is like jewellery to intiated knife knuts! There quite simply exists no factory comparison in my mind to their finished products.. I sound like a spokesperson so I will cool it at this point, but to me when it comes to smaller folders, no contest.

I have to say that the small Spyders are of the best quality that I've seen for the money. Actually the Mouse that I let get away(kicks myself) was built like a tank with top shelf quality.

Yes!... But NOT that robust. They are nice. I also have one. Very well made, but they are not suitable for hard cutting.

I got my wife a Dragonfly for her key chain, she was suprized how much better it was than her privious peice of-made in china. She loves it and caries it daily, I like it too, but usualy keep my Endura II or Rescue in my pocket

If by "king", you mean volume, then I would have to disagree and say that Victorinox is certainly "king".

If by "king", you mean variety of tools, I would again have to disagree and say that Victorinox and Leatherman offer far more variety of tools.

I think that Spyderco probably has an edge in the "high performance small knives" arena (2.5" & under), but I think we have more offerings in that area than other "performance" brands.

Yes indeed, there is no other brand that makes a nicer, higher quality line of smaller knives (not multi-tools) than does Spyderco. I like my SAKs also for leaving in the car, but not to carry around in my pocket.

Benchmade once made the little Pardue 330 gents knife that I still love to pack to church, but that is their best and last example of a good small knife that they produced in my opinion.

Yes, Spyderco rules in this category.

Mr. Glesser-

You are too modest. (Probably?) Definitely! Your knives most certainly have 'an edge'. I should know, I've been cut several times by them!;)
