Spyderco> King of the little knives

I have to put my vote in for spyderco here mainly because of their Navigator II.

Mine's been very good service to me.

Love my Jester, Navigator, SS Dragonfly, and Meerkat. Great little knives!

Certainly for me, Spyderco's little knife lineup is great. They have some of the best sorted out lineups for small knives. The one thing I like is to have something small that is of very high quality, and Spyderco offers lots of knives in this category. I especially like the Kiwi.

However, one cannot live on a single blade alone, so that's where Victorinox comes into the picture. Extremely high quality multitools. You really can't compare a single locking blade to a multitool because there are always compromises when you are packing all that functionality into a something that small. So it's unfair to say that Victorinox is less quality, it's fair to say that Victorinox makes some of the best small multiblade tools around. Let's just say that Vic and Sydie are at the top of their respective markets.

If by "king", you mean volume, then I would have to disagree and say that Victorinox is certainly "king".

If by "king", you mean variety of tools, I would again have to disagree and say that Victorinox and Leatherman offer far more variety of tools.

I think that Spyderco probably has an edge in the "high performance small knives" arena (2.5" & under), but I think we have more offerings in that area than other "performance" brands.

No Sir I wasn't referring to volume. However I will still stick by my guns with the variety of different small knives that Spyderco offers in regards to what you can get with Leatherman multi-tools. You got everything from the Dodo to the Ladybug to the C-39 Dyad Jr. to the CF Cricket. I appreciate you bringing up the competitors because I always like to look at what the other guy is doing. But I can assure you that if I need a serious small knife that I can rely on it will be one from Spyderco for sure.

I wouldn't trade one of my Spyderco small knives for 8 of the Victorinox models. Now I do have a Victorinox SWISS TOOL I use to accompany my Spyderench for when I work in the wetlands. Also I'm glad you mentioned Leatherman>> Because as great as the Spyderench is I would like to see Spyderco maybe make a more conventional type multi-tool ( sort of like the Swiss Tool) to accompany the Spyderench.

But in my defense my little Spydercos are still my #1 group of small knives. Quality and reliability of Small Spyders is why I launched this thread. :) and in my amateur layman's opinion I still can't see any small knives out there that can compete with the Great Spyder Factory with quality and reliability

JD, spyderco is not just a king of smaller knives, they are the king of MBC and tactical folders.

i would put the Manix and Chinook up against ANY other folders in the market and have faith that the Manix and Chinook would win flawlessly.

Don't forget the Spur! It has to be one of the most stout little knives in the Spyderco line-up. Great little knife.

Yeah I agree that the Spur was a great small knife. It's brother the stainless ProGrip is a really good one too. It's a shame that they didn't make more units of the MOUSE. That is about my total favorite Spyderco little knife.

I guess I'll chime in, though I have nothing new to say... I'd have to agree with sal on all three points. Sales (as well as great value)goes to Vic. Versitility has to go to LM. But king of little KNIVES undoubtedly goes to Spyderco.

Beginning with the ZDP sprint runs that came out and moving on to some of the very high quality knives using steels never before used in production of any real size that Sal has spoken about, Spyderco is getting ready to take a big step ahead of competitors that seem more concerned with the looks of their knives than advancing the state of the art. I see big things ahead sales wise, and market share wise. Joe L.

Yes you are absolutely right. They are the king in those markets as well. But the main reason I started this thread is that I can't think of any knife company that puts as much meticulous detail and superb quality as much in their little knives as they do in the bigger models.

No argument with any thing you said. I concur 100%. They are also The King of specialty knives as well i.e. Hawkbills, salt water proof knives, and their big Dyad is without a doubt the best full sized, double bladed knife you can find. LONG LIVE THE GREAT SPYDER FACTORY

Definitely king of the "little knives". I just love my "little" ones, namely the Cricket, Dragonfly. Ladybug and Ladybug II.

How about another run of Dyad Jr's, now that would be cool

I do like the Vic Soldier but I'm Partial to Spyderco. You can't beat the stainless Crickett, especially the serrated version. I also like the Navigator, Dragonfly and the beautiful Kopa with cocobollo handle.
