Spyderco: King of the serrated blades

Here's the same model knife, one in SS and made in Japan. The other made in the USA and in Titanium.
The Japanese made VG-10 serrations are a lot deeper and more pointed, than the USA made S30V . I'd never noticed this until just now.

Jill this was something I noticed about 5 years ago. The serrated blades made in Golden Colorado USA truly do have distinct differences over their Seki City Japan counterparts. The ATR model you show is an excellent example.

The first time I noticed it is when I had 2 of the C-23 Renegade models. Few people know that the Renegade was also a Spyderco model that had some units made in Golden Colorado USA and some in Seki City Japan. Even on a model that old, there were obvious differences in the 2 different manufacturing plants.

It seems that the spikes on the Seki City Serrations are much more pointy and defined; which in some cases have profound advantages. Actually I personally like the Golden Co USA serrations a little bit better for most applications and uses because they don't snag up as often on rugged materials.

At this time I'm working on 2 Seki models I have as users to remove some of the extreme points and try to round them off somewhat. I don't intend on modifying all my Seki Japan Spyderco blades but I wanted to do 2 of them for certain jobs I intend to do with them. I'll keep you all posted as to the results. Even with the small inconvenience I have with the Seki Serrations I still think Spyderco's Spyderedged blades are leaps & bounds over every other brand of serrated blades.
