Spyderco Kitchen Knives

I don't have any inside info, but I'd bet they're just testing the waters with the first models they have planned. If those sell well, I wouldn't be at all surprised if more types are added.

Spyderco has "tested the waters" a number of times with kitchen knives. They have never had the success they wanted.

IMHO, Spyderco's only marketing discriminator in the kitchen knife market is the "edge", that is their serrated edge, which is better than anything else. However, after the spyder-edge, Spyderco is just another in a long line of kitchen knife manufacturers, with no "hook" to bring in the routine customer, hence their departure from the market.

Personally, I wish spyderco would continue to make the two utility knives. I'd be willing to pay the extra cost for MBS-26 versions made in Japan, just make them with better handles than sermolian (?). The utility knives make great presents for weddings, visiting vacation homes of friends, etc. Sure one production run may last 5 years in inventory, but it would still sell :) I wear one out about every 8 years, and now all I've got left is a big one with about 3 years on it and no replacement. My little ones are all gone. :(

As Deacon mentioned and Brownshoe requested, we'll work on a few utility designs first and go from there. K04, K05, K08 (style). We're going into this with your requests as the driver.

We have improved the handles and will need to make new molds, Hard plastic frame, screwed to a full tang, with a soft plastic overmold.
