hey guys I have been looking around for some good fixed blades and stumbled on a the beautiful kumo. I was wondering if anyone had one and if they are worth it? or should I just go buy a spyderco folder? is there any folders that resembles the kumo?

If you local city/state laws allow you to carry a fixed blade, I say get the Kumo. A folder is just a "broken" fixed blade anyways. I have been trying mine out "IWB" tied with a piece of 550 cord. I can grab the handle, and pull it out, the sheath will clear my body and then my Kumo is in my hand, ready to go. Very quick to deploy. I have also carried it loose in my backpocket with my wallet. That worked ok, I would have to carry it more like that, make sure it isn't going to slide out of my pocket. It will also carry well, lose in the front pocket also. Just some ideas.
It is VG10 blade steel, so if you want a folder, maybe an Endura 4, or the new Caly III, or a Stretch. :) Plenty of folder choices from Spyderco.

The Kumo is superb. The law in my area precludes carrying it, except perhaps in a sporting/hiking scenario, for which it is not designed.

Nevertheless, the Kumo is an excellent defensive piece, and the "static-line" carry espoused by Blades is efficient and effective. The spear point blade, combined with the relatively neutral handle shape makes it a great pikal blade. The resin-coated, cord-wrapped, quasi-Japanese handle is attractive and practical. It's "grabby" enough to most likely preclude hand slippage, but thumb-capping would be good idea anyway, to avoid self-injury while thrusting in reverse grip. At the end of the handle is a nice punyo , with lanyard hole. A lanyard, or fob, also facilitates the static-line draw.

I guess I am the only person carrying a Kumo. :)

I carried mine for a bit. It is a very fine piece. I guess you just covered the subject so well, I didn't bother to add my 2 cents. :D

Kevshin,
IMO, for serious carry, get rid of the stock belt clip (which is functional but bulky) and get a "J" or "G" clip from Mike Sastre or employ the other methods advised in this thread.

I put a small fob on the end of mine, that I can slip my thumb into, in case I have to stab into a tire, my hand won't slip forward onto the blade. I don't have a way to take a pic, but you get the idea. :)
