Is Spydero planning on making a left-handed version of any of its liner-locking knives?
Obviously any lockback with a reversible clip will work, but southpaws deserve some liner-locks too...and there's none better than Spydie. Have you considered picking one or two to make a left-handed version of?
Maybe a Michael Walker lightweight, or even the Cricket? Starmate? :^) :^) :^)

I agree and left handed knives are not just for lefties..Right handed guys NEED left handed knives, edged tools to carry on the other side...rule of nature one must maintain balance! We have two hands, two sides and therefore EVEYONE needs both knives..left and right!
Simply swithcing the clip only works on lock backs...WE NEED LEFT LINERS, LEFT OTHER STYLES!....
Hey R&D..OWEN..are you listening!LOL!

That's a good point! I brought up the support-side issue on the Lefties forum on KF, but I haven't seen it mentioned here lately. I carry a Matriarch on the left.

In theory I'm left-handed although I shoot and throw right-handed. I've found that I have very little trouble drawing and opening knives left handed whether the 'lefty' versions or not. I love the reversible Rescue/Endura/Delica clips- No problems at all! I've more or less mastered opening 'righty' liner locks with my left hand. Ocaisionally I lose a little plasma however...

Sal mentioned in a prior post that he was bringing this issue up to the R&D dept. and the possibility of a LH Military would be looked at. I'm praying that this comes to pass as I'm itchin' and twitchin' to get a LH Spydie linerlock in this left pocket.
I'm tired of messin' with the rest, now I want the BEST!

And no, I do not want a Sebenza. Too much money for a folding knife IMO.

Hey R&D guys! this isn't a plug for lefties..its a plug for righties who want lefties!!!increase sales by all of us steel guys who want to carry ergonomic knives on BOTH sides so we don't tip over!!!
PLEASE!!PLEASE!!!i'm begging..OK?groveling?

I too would like to see some lefty linerlocks. I had a car door hinge close shut on 2 of my right hand fingers (OUCH) a few years ago. They were incapable of manipulating a folder soon after. It was a bit difficult trying to carry and work a right handed folder in the left pocket. At that time I wasn' t sure if I could produce them quick enough in a pinch. It was a bit unsettling. That' s my experience.

Yeah!!!

Lefty liner locks. It just rolls off the tongue doesn't it. Therefore, they should go into production (old-fashioned lefty logic.)

Just my two cents.

OK guys. I just have to wade in here. I'm a dealer. I carry left hand knives because people have asked for them. The problem is... NOBODY BUYS THEM! (I'm not shouting, just emphasizing.)

Spyderco used to make left hand Police models, Mariners and you could get the old Terzuola model in left hand by special order. All are gone now due to poor sales. Benchmade has had several models in left hand and they don't sell either.

I had a left hand Police model in stock for over a year before some one bought it just last week. I wouldn't replace it even if I could. I have several left hand Benchmade models in stock, including the discontinued Emerson line and haven't sold one in months. I even have left hand Sebenzas, large and small. I've sold two in 2 years.

Seeing as how we are in business to sell things, it follows that we manufacture and buy things that sell. If you folks don't buy them I'm not going to carry them and neither is anyone else. If no one carries them, then no one is going to make them.

If you really want manufacturers to make them and dealers to carry them, then you have to BUY them. Capice? Wakaru? Verstanze? Understand? It's simple economics. You demand, we supply...but only if you buy.

Sorry guys...sore spot.

Guess then its up to us knife or edged tool instructors to TEACH people that they need to carry TWO knives at all times and that a right handed knife is not made to go on the left side soooo They better buy left handers as well...
You as a dealer should be encouraging STRONGLY that a human has two arms therefore buy TWO knives from me, a right n a left..
people don't buy what they don't know they are supposed to buy..
We need to edeucate them into buying MORE edged tools..better for sellers, better for manufacturers and of course much better for those that carry edged tools!

Dennis - well put.

Bram, that is the issue. more than once we ended up with old stock of antiquated left hand versions while we updated. Sales do not reflect requests. That is why we started making ambi clips.

Thanks Sal.

Bram, not a bad idea except it doesn't work too well when the "significant other" is nearby asking "what do you need another one of those things for?".

As for educating the public, if I do any more of that I'll have to change the name of my place to The Cutology College or the La Mesa institute of Knifeology or something like that and change my title from proprietor to professor....Hmmm, not a bad idea...ah, but then I'd have to come up with a curriculum, hire counsellors, get government approval,

...Nah, I think I'll just keep trying to sell these things. Thats a lot more fun.

(I do like the idea of two knives per person though.

Happy holidays everyone.

Well, I was curious, so I went to look at the two knives on eBay mentioned above; the titles on the auctions are:
  • Spyderco C19PSL Bob T Starmate Jr. Left Hand
  • Spyderco C15GPSL Starmate, Left Hand NIB
And the text for the first one says, in part:
This is a great small knife. It is a left handed version of the Bob Terzoula Starmate, that is rapidly becoming a Spyderco Favorite. It features the same Steel and design of its bigger brother but at a great size for carrying. It has the liner lock and the G-10 smooth scales. This hasn't even made it to the catalog yet. It might not be produced in large numbers. Get this while you can. it is New in Box. Bid appropriately. ...
AAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! (the sound Charlie Brown makes when Lucy pulls the football away at the last minute, sending him flying.)

Well, I don't know whether the seller is merely clueless or, uh, mischievous, but the picture and the model numbers make it quite clear that these knives are not Starmates, but rather the older, original, Bob T/Spyderco collaboration knives. Given that the knives, boxes, papers, etc., almost certainly would not have the word Starmate anywhere on them, one can only presume that the seller has heard of the Bob T. Starmate, got these knives in trade from someone (or some other informal method, vs. ordering Starmates from a distributor), and "put 2 and 2 together... and got it wrong".

Any suggestions for a smaller lefty clipit? My wife has finally realized that the ladybug in her purse isn't really accessable.

She's thinking that the delica is just a touch too big. I think she'd love the navigator, but it appears to have the clip on the "wrong side" for her.

Help please, Christmas is coming fast.

Try the Calypsos Lightweight. Just saw one today at Beck's(beckscutlery@mindspring.com). Very nice little knife and its in VG-10.(You can cut a pepsi can in half and still shave paper thin slices of tomato.

) The clip is reversible.

Ditto what Blades said. Big Ditto!
I was messin' with my Calypso Jr. Lightweight while I was reading this. What a coincidence!

So, what IS the speed of dark?

Looks like the Calypso Jr is about the same size as the Delica? I'm loaning her my BM 820 this week for size comparison. She says it is too long to fit in the front pocket of her jeans - but she wants a clipit style one-hander.

Can I special order a Navigator with the clip on the left? or have customer service tap it on the left side? or.... some of the folks in the forums seem pretty capable of some awesome modifications......
