Lion Steel Knives is headquartered in Maniago, Italy and represents three generations of knife manufacturing founded by the Pauletta family. Lion Steel produces a wide variety of classic, hunting and everyday carry knives, combining traditional Italian design elements with modern production techniques in a twenty-first century manufacturing facility. In collaboration with Spyderco they produce the LionSpy folder.
The Lil LionSpy’s blade is Austrian Bohler-Uddeholm Elmax steel, a high carbon/chromium/vanadium/molybdenum mixture of alloys generated through powdered-metallurgy technology resulting in edge retentive, low maintenance blades. The hollow-ground drop-point blade is PlainEdged with jimping on the spine for skid resistance. Two scales fit together creating the handle, a black G-10 front scale and a titanium back scale. Both front and back scales are corrugated for enhanced grip and are constructed with an adjustable pivot and scale screws. A Chris Reeve Integral Lock is augmented with a RotoBlock. This is a pivoting locking mechanism that functions as a back-up lock (doubly locking the knife blade open in addition to the integral liner) and also inhibits the lock’s liner from overextending. A tapered steel pocket clip is positioned off the handle’s end and situates the folder in a low-profile tip-up orientation.
