The Manbug is a uniquely practical folder designed by Spyderco's founder, Sal Glesser. As the founder of the company, Glesser has, through the years, carried virtually every knife Spyderco produced, as well as many prototypes and special models that never went into production. Despite the wide array of knives available to him, the one he carries most often is the Spyderco LadyBuga small, go-anywhere clipless folder that rides in the pocket. Anyone who has ever used a LadyBug knows that it cuts with an authority far beyond its size. However, as part of Spyderco's quest for C.Q.I. (Constant Quality Improvement), Glesser decided to make it even better. And, for anyone whose male ego made it difficult for them to carry a "LadyBug," he also made life easier. The result is the ManBugan amazingly handy cutting tool that is more at home in larger hands while still sitting inconspicuously in a pocket or even on a keychain.
Spyderco's Sprint Run Manbug is made with Aogami Super Blue steel. Aogami Super Blue is produced exclusively by Hitachi Metals at their plant in the Shimane Prefecture, Japan. They use high quality iron-sand found only in this region to create different grades of steels including white steels and blue steels. The steel itself isn't blue or white in color but the designation refers instead to the color paper the raw steel comes wrapped in when delivered to Hitachi. In Japan its common practice for steels to be named and referred to; based on the color of the packaging the raw steel is delivered in. Super Blue is the highest grade blue steel and contains up to 1.5% carbon for wear resistance and chrome to elevate hardness and improve edge holding and corrosion resistance.
The gray fiberglass reinforced nylon handle features Spyderco's patented Bi-Directional Texturing for slip-free tactile traction. Inside the handle are dual skeletonized stainless steel liners which strengthen the knife without additional weight and double as an anchor for external and internal components to attach through generating more sturdiness and rigidity.
