Spyderco Manix 2 question

Hey guys, I have been wanting a Manix 2 for quite a while. I figured I would just settle with the Delica since the Manix always seemed to be out of stock. I called the dealer yesterday and they were out of the Delica's but had a Manix 2 in stock. Since the store is close to an hour away they held it for me. I ended up working over this morning so my wife went and picked my knife up for me. When she got home, I looked at it, and quickly realized it wasn't the Manix 2 I was expecting. This one is the lightweight Manix 2 with a CTS BD1 blade
The one I wanted has G10 handles and a CPM S30V blade. I like the way my Manix 2 looks and everything but I am a bit concerned about its durability. This thing has plastic handles and no liners. Will it hold up to hard use? Is CTS BD1 a good steel? Will this knife last very long if put to hard use? I realize my mistake, I should have asked a few questions instead of assuming this knife was the one I had in mind.

Rest easy it is a great knife. I have one in my pocket right now. I own 14 Manix and in just about every steel they come in. I carry my lightweight the most. I use it to cut up my recycling and other light to medium chores and have never been disappointed. Just keep it sharp (easy to do) and you will love it. BTW that is not "plastic." And it holds up just fine.

The bd1 will be easier to sharpen and take a keener edge with less difficulty. But on the flip side of that coin, it will not hold its edge as long.

You shouldn't have to work about corrosion on either steel, but for informational purposes, the bd1 is more stain resistant, iirc.

In regards to the handle durability:
If you squeeze the handle slabs together in the middle, you will see some flex. That should not cause much concerned since they don't have liners. Plenty of people carry the bd1 and s110v versions in an edc role (I did my s110v for a bit).

As to the toughness of the scales and what they can hold up to:
I wanted to scavenge the blade from my s110v and put it into a s30v body (swap works fine), but since I didn't have a vice for my drill press I ended up dinging up the scales when I was drilling out the pins. Due to the dsmage, I figured I would just break the slabs and pull the blade out.
I mean, how hard can it be? It is just some plastic...

Well I had to resort to using the vice and a set of vice grips and channel locks in my garage...

It will hold up just fine. The edge will need some more frequent maintenance, but it is still a friendly alloy.

I also have the trans blue frcp with BD-1. Had it for close to a year and it'll take anything you can throw at it!
The frcp is not some cheap plastic.....it is extremely tough!!
My son works electrical for Local 1 on elevators and escalators. He saw my Manix, quickly 'borrowed' it and has been using it as a work knife for a year. No complaints at all.
I do HVAC and mine has never let me down! Great knife.
I have a few other Manix 2s, G10 s30v, Cruwear and s110v. All are fantastic knives!
Try not to let the blade get too dull. I touch ours up couple times a week.
Enjoy it!!
Joe

You're better off. The LW is the better of the two knives. It's in my pocket probably 6 days out of the week. Even came with me to the ER for some stitches today.

Never developed even a hair of wiggle.

TheEdge01, I'm posting some knives for sale tomorrow here on BF. One is a G10 Manix 2 with satin blade and partial serrations. I'll give it a good look when I take pictures, but it's essentially brand new. I bought it new but just never carry it. If you're interested just let me know and I'm happy to send details/pictures your way before I post it. Thanks!

The LW Manix is plenty tough. I use mine every night at my warehouse job. No complaints here.

Great edge geometry, ergonomics and the fact that it barely weighs 3 oz is the icing on the cake!
