Spyderco Manix 2 vs Benchmade Griptilion for EDC?

The other reason I got this one is because i like leaf style blades of Sabre Blades ANY day. Also I've heard AMAZING things about the BD1 steel. Apparantely it's kind of like VG10 but holds an edge longer.

Mmm, I don't know if it holds an edge longer, but it's super easy to sharpen and really takes a razor edge. It's also very highly corrosion resistant. It's a great knife.

Really? In my experience i had a tough time getting a shaving edge with bd1 on my SM ... I also hated that you can not adjust anything on the lightweight... That aside I hope you love the knife. I would totally get a pm2 in the future great knife at a great price...

On the new models of the lightweight it's a torque screw holding in the blade so you actually can adjust it.

I prefer the Griptilian but I own a Manix 2 XL and like it fine. I think for EDC the Griptilian is better because it's lighter and much easier to open and close one-handed for me. Enjoy your LW!

I ended up getting the one that no one advised me for lol. I got the Manix LW. I got to feel what a 5 oz knife felt like in my pocket, and decided that I could deal with the cheaper feel if I didn't have to carry that much weight. My SOG Flash 2 is 3.1 ounces and that feels about the right weight. I didn't go benchmade solely because I'm not the best at resetting a knifes edge, and I know they have bad geo. out of the box, and I don't want to ruin it. Thanks for all the answers!

I didn't see this thread in time to suggest, but the Manix2 LW is exactly the one that I would have suggested. I have a variety of the Manix line and a variety of the Griptilian line. I really like the Doug Ritter Grips, but I find myself reaching for the Manix2 LW more often than any other knife I own.

About the BD1 blade...it is a good blade. Not a great blade. Holds an edge reasonably well, but is outperformed in that area by the 154CM of the Grips and the S30V of the Ritter Grips. That said, it is very easy to put a nice edge on the BD1 so that sort of makes up for the fact that you will have to so a bit more often.

I think you'll really like the Manix2 LW. Good, soild knife, IMHO. BTW, the fact that it is so light is what sells me over the other Manix knives that I own. Just a really nice EDC.
