Spyderco Manix 2 XL

I have the Para 2 and the Manix xl. They are both teriffic values right now. The Para is an easy first choice due to it's more pocketable size. The Manix is very wide and not the most comfortable knife to carry in many circumstances. That being said, it is a home run in it's particular size class: big leaf-shaped bladed knives. The quality, traction plan, strength, fit and finish and locking mechanisms are top notch and really not worth the time picking apart, in my opinion.

the only thing that keeps me looking at the vallotton is that the manix is similar to my benchmade 741 onslaught

I try to stay away from the trendy/gimicky knives and stick with high value(s30v) knives that are more practical to use. When you get a manix xl in your hand you will realize that it is not like your onslaught, at all. The only knife that comes close to me is the Resilance. Don't get me wrong though, i have drooled over the onslaught and vallotron more than a few times.

The XL is a tank of a knife, very solidly built. Love the blade shape, classic leaf design. My two favorites right now are the Manix 2 XL and Superleaf. If you have smaller hands you might have to position the knife a little to pull the ball lock to close the knife one handed.

I have to agree with the above posts that state the Manix 2 XL is a better value than the Benchmade 741 Onslaught.

Much better grip, no annoying cut-out left over from the laser cutting of the blade shape (at the base of the blade).

Higher-end steel at a lower price and made in the USA too!

A little off topic. I have a Manix XL. I don't like the shiny clips that Spydeco is putting on a lot of their knives now.

I put the clip on the burner on our gas stove to heat treat it. It's a multi colored dark color now.....I goes Much Better with the black g 10 IMO.

I also did the same HT with my m4, s90v, and orange millies. The top and bottom of the m4 clip is a blueish/purple color. The middle is a gray/brown. Much better than a

shiny clip.....looks great on the ti scales.

Sounds interesting Clockman. I may try that on my Sogzilla or Cara Cara to see how it looks. The shiny clips are ok, but scratched and chipped black clips look bad!

again i dont mind chipped clips i think i knife that shows wear is a beautiful thing but that's just my tastes . i mean i love death metal but lots of people hate it
