This is why we all recommend buying from dedicated knife shops. They at least should be able to spot all but the best counterfeits and can tell when a knife isn't functioning properly.

Loving the Benchmade 810-1401 Contego from knifeworks

Just got it today and the fit and finish is flawless. Also, it has the sharpest factory edge I have ever had. Hair leaps up and it will swoop a snag free S cut through paper, even with this broad of a blade.

Thanks to all that recommended knifeworks.com during my Manix 2 XL Amazon woes. Without you I probably wouldn't have found this model.

I received the replacement today and its worse than the first one. it moves the same distance out of lock but this one makes an audible click against the bladestop when I release pressure. I managed to get a halfway decent video of it... a bit difficult one handed but nothing not touched the CBB lock at any point in the video.
a little disappointing both had this issue...

Sounds to me like you may have very well received some fakes. They are out there having received one myself once. Being very familiar with Spyderco I recognized it as a fake immediately and returned it but someone not familiar might have thought it was the real thing. The fake I received definitely had issues as well. Just a thought.

I am leaning to that conclusion also.

Just surprised I haven't heard a peep out of Spyderco yet though. I contacted them the day I got the first knife from Amazon. You would think they would have at least replied.

Also, last night I received a reply from Benchmade for the 940 deep Carry pocket clip request. I was going to buy one, but they are just shipping me one automatically. So now that I returned the 940 I hope it fits the Contego. That way I will have a spare, because I will inevitably end up snagging it on something eventually.
