I was checking Spyderco's website for a Manix C-95 and it says its been discontinued.
I also noticed that other models have been discontinued:confused:
Is this a new trend with Spyderco? From some reviews of this knife from owners this model came highly recommended.
Why discontinue it? Was it a limited run or something?
Does anybody know how many were produced, and if there are any being sold or traded here on BF?
Forgive my ignorance:o but I just joined BF (maybe 4 or 5 posts) and I'm not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer;) when it comes to computers.
Thanks Dennis
PS What is the going rate of a mint Manix C-95?

AFAIK. The Manix and Mini Manix have been discontinued for at least a year. The Manix knives are highly recommended, but low sales obviously ended it's run. I've seen the large Manix go for as high as $200 new in box. There was recently a Sprint Run of the C95, but those have dried up as well. Your best bet is to watch the exchange. They usually don't last too long. The Manix 2 is in the works. It will have a Ball Bearing Lock though, so it's going to be a different beast.

As a general rule of thumb, the Spyderco you want most will always be discontinued, and it will cost you fifty goats and a pint of virgin blood to acquire one that hasn't been used as a chisel, splitting maul, screwdriver, or hockey puck.

Wish I'd stocked up on Calypsos when they got the axe. . .

I would suppose there comes a point when most of the ones that are going to get certain models have them.
Then sales slow down and the decision to cut them is made.
Of course the fact that they aren't made any longer makes collectors and users want them 100x more than when they was readily available.
In the case of a great design like the Manix they dry up at a greatly accelerated speed!

With rare exceptions, Spyderco knives are discontinued due to poor sales. A model with small, but highly vocal, following on the forums does not always generate the same degree of enthusiasm among the general knife buying public. The opposite is quite often the case.

The only thing that makes the Manix's demise somewhat more perplexing than most is Spyderco's decision to do the green Sprint Run so shortly after the original black version was retired. That said, judging by how quickly it sold out, it was certainly a good call on their part.
