Spyderco Manix Lightweight vs Benchmade Griptilian?

Of the two knives in the OP. Grip all the way. Expand your budget and that's a whole new story. Lol.

Haven't tried a Grip yet but the Manix 2 LW makes a great summer carry. It's the only knife I carry in light shorts.

Push, I like em both, their offerings and qualities in these models are about the same. I'd say the Manix is easier to pocket though, and the grind of the griptilian would seem a little sturdier depending on what you are cutting.

I am going to throw a wrench into the mix and suggest something different that is in the same price range: the HK14715 Axis. I have never owned a Griptilian because I can't get past the hollow plastic handles (although I've owned numerous mini-Grips over the years), and I've owned a couple of Manix2 knives. I've also owned the HK Axis, and by far I prefer it. The caged ball bearing lock on the Manix2 is very stiff, and despite having a blade almost as long as the Griptilian and HK14715, the cutting edge is a lot shorter.

Griptilian: 154CM steel, partial liners, Valox handles, smooth Axis lock
Manix2 LW: BD-1 steel, no liners (??), translucent plastic handles, stiff CBBL
HK14715: D2 steel, full steel liners, flat-ish G10 slabs, smooth Axis lock for only $5-8 more than the Griptilian and Manix2 LW.

For the best value for the money, the HK14715 beats both of them.

Go with a Grip...or the H&K mentioned above. I like some flavors of Manix but the LW is the worst variety. If you want a Spydiehole, check out an Endura.

Manix 2 all the way. People complain that the scales feel cheap on both base models of the knives you mentioned so I'm giving it to the Manix for superior ergos and the performance of the ffg blade. Sure, you get a little more cutting length with the Grip but the Manix blade has all the edge you'll ever need.

I use my LW at the warehouse gig every night. No complaints on the BD1 here. Sure it might need a pass on the stones sooner than the Grip, but it still holds its edge fairly well. I'm also a huge fan of the wire clip.

I carried my native lw, today for the first time in a few months. I was about to suggest the native, but in all honesty as a knife nut if you can, get them all and if you happen to not like one or two trade them out!

Weird. I had to do a double take at the date. Haha.

The Grip/Mini-Grip is now offered with grey G10 handles and upgraded steel, CPM-20V for 2016. Pricing around $160.

The standard one is still offered too.

I have tried to love he manix, but I cant. On the other hand i will be geting a second griptilian soon.

Much as I love my Spydies - I'd go for the Griptilian over the Manix all day, every day. I have both versions 550HG in 154CM and the 550-1 in CPM-20V. Love 'em...
