Spyderco Manix or Benchmade Rukus?

I like the looks of the Rukus better for how I would use the knife in a camp/hunting. I would really suggest that you hold them both before buying them though. I have not held the Rukus but I was interested in the Manix. Went to a store- checked it out..... and it just felt wrong. Very well made but did not fit my hands well (and I have larger hands as well).
If one feels better than the other then that is what I would suggest.

Doesn´t the Rukus have a flat grind?

Originally, J8XXXXX specified "full flat grind", and therein lies the difference. With the Manix the flat grind begins right at the spine of the blade; hence full flat grind. The Rukus has what would more appropriately be termed a saber grind.

The tradeoff is that while the Rukus blade will likely be marginally stronger in absolute terms, the Manix blade will cut more efficiently as its overall blade cross-section presents a more acute wedge shape.

I too have the Manix and chose it over the Rukas for camp duty. Manix has enough belly for big game duty with enough drop point to be a precision scalpel sharp tool. Blade thickness is thick enough to spine whack for splitting tinder for fire wood. Rukus has little more than length going for it in terms of utility. Spear point limits applications to whittling tent stakes and self defense. Wouldn't use for game use without risk of puncturing hides. Choking up on this knife is not possible without a choil (present on Manix). Manix is more than ample enough to handle fixed blade duties, handle it in the field and you'll be a believer ... trust me. There's no comparison.

Is the Ruckus perhaps smoother opening? I'm looking for a big folder, with a pocket clip, and really want an easy to open knife. Don't necessarily want to be restricted to just assisted openers though.

Can anyone post pic's of these two excellent knives side by side. Perhaps a few different angles. Thanks.

I own both of these knives and truly love them both. I dont think I could make a clear choice between the two of them...The Manix gets the points in slicing, stonger lock imo, and pure business folder, while the Rukus gets the points in thicker and stronger blade, ease to open and close of the axis lock and better looks imo. I cant decide which has a better feeling handle as I like both but the manix is wide but not thick and the Rukus has a long narrow thick handle. Its really a toss up.

In my opinion the Rukus looks too darn fancy schmancy.

If you want a no nonsense folder go with the Manix. It has thicker liners and a better lock in my opinion.

Well, the Manix has always been one of my favorite folders and has the best handle ergonomics of any knife I have held.

I don't own the Ruckus and never will. The blade is not bad, but what the hell where they thinking when they designed the handle: not wide enough for a full grip, I don't like the "horn" at the choil and I don't like the "broken up" fancy looks of the two different handle materials. Put the blade of the Ruckus into the handle of the Skirmish and then we're talkin'.

The liners on the Rukus are actually a little thicker but I would trust the Lockback over the axis lock any day.

Just to add my 2 cents, I'd say that in the field, both knives open and close "fast enough", I don't see any advantage in being able to get the blade opened half a second faster. For me this argument suits better the "urban" users who may think about using the knife for SD, pretty foolish with or without a real good training...

If we stick to what matters:
- toughness: both knives have it,
- materials, fit and finish quality: both are in the same range,
- lock strength and reliability: both knives have extremely good locks, although I would give the lockback a plus when it comes to high constraints,
- sharpness: out of the box, the spydies win anytime over the BMs, on top of that, I would say that the spydies always have better blade geometries anyway, better usage potential
- ergos: again the spydies have (and probably always will) the edge over the BMs
- price: on this comparison, the manix is the most affordable, no possible debate.

Overall, the manix is the winner here, no doubt, it's a much better EDC, with great potential for any incoming task to deal with, maybe the only role where I would see the Rukus preferred, is in a military one (longer blade and overall fitting colors...)

I own both. I much prefer the Rukus. It just exudes quality over my Manix.

...and I consider myself a spyderco guy.

Would you happen to have pics of both?

Would you say both are just as easy to quickly open with one hand??
