Agreed! The Meercat is WAY cool.... So what IS that handle made of? I`m guessing aluminum....

Meerkat is sweeet!! I'll have to add that to my list of knives to buy.

Here are some digital photos of the Meerkat at the Blade Show:

It's a scale release for closing - you push the rear of the hanle in opposite directions to unlock.

Just when I was starting to think that the Chinese Folder was going to be last knife I really had to have. The Meerkat is way too cool

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

Pretty wild! I like how the tip of the blade doesn't seem to drop much; it's a bit more pointy.

The handle reminds me of the Navigator's, but the indentations are very unique. I'm sure they aid in different grips, but they also probably help prevent slipping by providing surface texture. Plus, it just looks cool.

This one is must to have. I really REALLY hope that spyderco do not let this design to gather dust in some drawer. This one should be also available with plain edge when/if it hits market. I probably wouldn't buy serrated version.

Hi Sal,

Must join the others in saying this one should be produced, fast and with a plainedge

It is a real good concept

I like this one too, I'm really impressed with the protos James has posted pics of so far. Again Spyderco pushes the envelope! Oh, that'd be the envelope that my paycheck comes in

trivia... for those who haven't done business with Patti at Ironstone get to it!
she's the best there is. always answers questions and even sent a bottle of shampoo with my last order. did you know she carries an old Spydie Spur that Sal gave her? and her young daughter carries a Cricket. my kind of ladies.... i'll be stowing away on a freighter to Hawaii someday LOL. thanks for your help Patti! Aloha!

Cool indeed - and ambidextrous to boot!

This one has just made the top of my "must have" list.

BTW, does anybody know how long the blade is? Is it the same as in the Cricket?
Just curious... I want it regardless!

Sal,

My girlfriend, roommate, roommate's girlfriend, and myself,(4) all want this knife

What are the specs on this one? What is this new lock called?
WHEN CAN I GET ONE?

Blade is a tad over 2" (about 53mm). We're calling a "split lock". Planned for delivery before Xmas.

Will be available in plain & toothed.
Steel is AUS-6

Any opinions on colors?

Oh, BTW, Retail is planned for $39.95

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth but.....I thought Spyderco was going to ATS-55 across the board for their "non-premium" knives? The Cricket is ATS-55. Why would you drop down to AUS-6 for this one? It is a neat looking design but that steel change makes it less desirable to me. What am I missing?

I thought that the Civilian was wanting......I would take the Meerkat any day of the week......can't wait to get my hands on this one!
