just bought spyderco military new in 440v. was wanting some feed back on value & 440v quality?

No it's much older than S30V, it's CPM S60V (440V) Stainless Steel
Chemical Characteristics

It's make-up
Carbon 2.15%
Chromium 17.00%
Vanadium 5.50%
Manganese 0.40%
Molybdenum 1.00%
Silicon 0.40%

Wasn't the heat treat or Rockwell hardness different for 440v as compared to S60V? Same ingredients just cooked different?

Spyderco changed the heat treat due to performance issues, but not the naming. S60V/440V, S90V/420V, just Crucible saying that the steels were vanadium-enriched PM versions of the known steel classes 420 & 440.

IMO the best of the Millies. I have 2 PE and an SE. The 440v is an excellent performer, tough and holds
an edge very well. Just my $.02.

This is my favorite knife with my favorite steel. I have the edge thinned down to 15 deg per side and it is the cats MEOW. Goes a looooooooooong time before needing to be sharpened again and I have had no problems with chipping.

For some reason, I think I remember reading that the main difference between the two was that 440V was not a PM like S60V was. Could be wrong, tho.

Not only is 440V long gone, last I heard, they have stopped making S60V. I am not a collector, but I would at least consider retiring it. Get something in either S30V or S90V as your user.

You don't see a lot of knives in 440V. I have only one knife with 440V: an original Kershaw Random Task.

I have a CPM 440v native, good steel and I wish it was used more but I guess I'll just have to settle for S90V ;)

You will find that the 440v is very easy to sharpen and gets extremely sharp and will stay sharp for a good amount of time.
