Hey guys

I'm probably going to get one of the two knives mentioned, can anyone tell me which one would be better for the woods?

For woods use, I'd go with the C3. Both are great knives, but the C3 has a MBC rating. Defintely strong enough for small outdoors chores.

The military is not shabby, but I vaguely remember that the Military was ment to be a slicer. Mine has handled small branch cutting with no problem. But, I'm n ot a fan of the liner lock. IMHO, the C3, with a lockback, wins for woods use.

I have used bolth. Bolth are good solid knives. But niether one was good for me in the woods. When I am in the woods, I am most likely hunting. Although bolth are good knives I found that niether are good for cleaning game. The military doesn`t have enough belly, and the c3 is too upswept for me.If I had to choose btween the two, I would choose the Milltary.

Military for me. Light weight and slimmer, I find the Military to be more inline with my outdoor needs then the Chinook. The Chinook is a great knife, but too much belly, and too heavy in the pocket for my taste.

and the c3 is too upswept for me.
Really?

To each their own I guess.

For the woods, I would rather go for a fixed knife.
I have the Military, it's deservedly seen as a modern classic. Light yet strong. I only played a bit with the Chinook at a show: very sturdy but rather heavy.
My impression is that the Chinook can withstand even more abuse than the already solid Military, but for me the light weight of the Military would make it the winner.

I would also recommend checking out the Ritter RSK Mk I Griptilian. There's a new one out with safety orange coloured scales.

I love the Chinook 3, but I must admit that the Military is easier to clean in the field, especially if you have blood and gut or fish parts involved.
This makes it more sanitary and alot less stinky.

And the Military is lighter in weight, and when hiking in the wilderness, every ounce matters.

So, I recommend the Military.

Good luck,
Allen

I have used the military in the woods for along time. It works great. I like a small fix blade for cleaning deer. Folders are more trouble to clean up. I like the Chinook in town for two legged animals!
