Spyderco Military- Frame lock? Liner lock? OH GOD, HELP.

Ive owned both and it really comes down to personal preference.

The military is just an awesome cutter all around but personally I think the light weight nature of the knife is what makes it so great. A knife with identical blade length like the ZT 0560 is just so much more noticeable in pocket than the Millie. Its a very big blade thats easy to carry.

The Ti version is much heavier and feels alot different in hand. Its pretty much a beast of a knife that inspires alot of confidence when you hold it. I like the heaver feel when Im cutting things but don't always like the heft in pocket.

My main issue with the millie that other people have as well is the liner lock. If you are a fan of liner locks then I would definitely get the regular version in a nice flavor like CF and M390. However if you are like me and don't like liner locks go with the Ti version.

Both a really solid knives and you will be happy with either. I have a big disliking for liner locks but still love the military and love it even more because there is a framelock version as well!

Actually just get both...... :)

The Military, for what it costs, is one of my favorite production knives. When I look at a folding knife I examine all of the links in the chain that make it what it is. When I look at the parts of the Military I see a few weaker links that are not made any more robust with added Ti scales. The weak points of the Millie are the small screws and the giant hole in the blade. I don't see them being under built for my uses. I just like to keep things in perspective.

Like someone above said & I agree. The light weight of the Millie is a big part of what it is! The Titanium, as I said above, does not really make the knife better overall. It just adds Ti to the same design, making it more difficult to produce equaling more cost. The weight difference is totally not worth it IMO.

My personal .02c is if you want a Millie buy a G10/S30V model. If you want a Ti frame lock, buy a Sebenza or an SnG. Oddly enough these three knives all weigh almost exactly the same. ~4.5 oz.

The opening hole is is not a "weak spot", even though many people rally want it to be. A much use as I've put on a single model (3 years worth of almost daily use) I cannot say that the screws are a problem either. I know Yablanowitz (Jack) has put his through their paces, more than I have and I don't think he noticed any problems with either either. He's not one to skip important details. I would like to see some thicker standoffs, but till then, it's one of the best 4" knives on the market.

go for the ti. the one I have is smoother and locks up better than any of the g10 versions I've used. plus who could resist those big ol slabs of ti :-D

I like the G10. I prefer the grippyness and its not like the linerlock is inadequate.

I like the Titanium Military a lot, so I put my favorite blades in them :)

The Military is a classic for good reason. It's hard to make a wrong decision on any model. I have always liked and trusted the Military liner lock, so when the Ti/M4 RIL/framelock came out, the selling point to me was the M4 steel. I didn't really care about the Ti or the RIL. In the hand, the extra weight and metal -- and finish of the actual lock -- makes the TI/M4 feel like an extremely well made knife, which it is.

However, it does add noticeable weight. My old and well-used Military CF/BG-42's liner still locks up with a loud "clack." No blade play. It's is strong. It is light. It is great. It is a feather in the pocket. It cuts like a demon.

I have had linerlock knives for many years, and now I have a few framelock knives. I am plenty happy with linerlock knives, because I like G10 scales and because I like my knives to look the same on both sides.

But as someone already said, the correct answer is to buy both.
