Spyderco Military - Im on the fence, help me jump off it

Just my $0.02, but here it is...

The liner lock is by no means my favorite locking mechanism, the but the liner lock on the Millie really is something else. Its superb...a joy to operate and, I believe, fully capable of anything I feel the Millie itself should be put thru.

Aesthetics are something you're going to have to decide for yourself. If its really a deal breaker for you, I'm sure you can pursue a solution in the aftermarket; the Military is fairly well supported.

As far as the tip is concerned, I could see how some might call it delicate but the Millie is a cutting tool, first and foremost. Not a prybar, screwdriver or an axe. The term "hard use" is thrown around ***a lot*** and is so highly subjective and, at times, misleading as to be useless. All number of people have used their blades for a litany of decidedly non-cutting tasks and have either been satisfied or disgusted with the amount of abuse they tolerate before breakage. Its not the thickest blade stock to begin with and it tapers down to a fine tip for the proverbial 'detail' work, as the Master, Sal, surely intended. If I broke my Cruwear sprint in a 'normal' cutting task...even in a 'hard use **cutting task**' I'd be sad. But, if I broke it doing any form of prying, batoning or screwing something, I would only have myself to blame...I would have screwed myself IMO. I just use it accordingly and don't worry about it in the least. YMMV.

Just get one. You'll love it. :D

Polished Venom Pearl Kirinite with a rounded contour on a layer of black G10, T8 screws on scales and clip, T15 screws for pivot, back spacer replaced with barrel spacers, tip up clip screwed into barrel spacer and nuts recessed into the G10.

They were made by Steve Ketchen of Sketchen Scales (link below) and I highly recomend him. Not only is he a skilled craftsman making beautiful scales, he is also a great guy to deal with.

Holy cow. I love those Sketchen's. From the side with the contours, they look like they would be fatter than normal. But then the edge view shows they are totally slender. That's some great work.

As a left handed person, I was delighted to score a lefty military. Loved it. As has been noted in this thread numerous times, there is no better folder to operate with gloves. It's super light and slim, so it carries effortlessly. Cuts like... well like a Spyderco. I went through a Sebenza phase at one point and sold many of my beloved Spydies to fund 1 CRK. After the honeymoon wore off, boy was I sorry. I've since come to my senses, but the lefty Military is now pretty scarce, since it's long out of production. If I was right handed I'd be all over the incredible sprint and exclusive military issues that have come out recently. OP, I say go for it, unless you think it's too big for you. It doesn't feel like it, but when you take it out and open it with that satisfying "thwack," it is one big knife.

Got the Military because I loved the PM2. After carrying the Military it just seemed perfect so I sold the PM2. No regrets.

If you're on the fence- watch the For Sale Forum the Military can be had for $100 or less. Awesome deal at that price and if you don't like it the loss on a resale is minimal.

Surprising to me I prefer the 3.75 inch blade and will probably get rid of my smaller knives.

Satisfying Thwack is right on the money.
