Spyderco Military in super blue?

Won't happen. It is a Japanese steel and the Military is a US knife. The Japanese rarely ship their steel out of country, and they don't use steels from other countries.

I just want a knife period. All I have as of now is my 420 HC blade on my supertool 300. One of these days I will get one after I get things back under some semblance of normal at home. There has been alot going on lately.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that I do have that at least. The supertool is a handy thing to have. It has come in handy several times out here on the road. I am just saying that it would be nice to have a pocket knife that I can use without flipping all the other stuff open to get at it. It's cool though, one of these days it will come together and happen. As Stephen King's Roland of Gilead says "there will be water if God wills it". I like this saying even though it comes from a fictional character.

I can second that one strongly. I love CPM CRUWEAR.

And I will third that, cruwear is an ideal steel for the millie. Super blue would be really awesome, but its pretty unrealistic that it would happen. I would rather have another m4 sprint anyways because the ti framelock m4 sprints are hard to find and out of my price range.

It will be super tempting!

The first Mule was 52100 and Spyderco ran it very hard. I have one and it is still one of my favorites, simply an outstanding blade.

I was in a thread with Sal about the Tenacious with possibly a different steel than the standard one. I suggested 52100 for it. Sal said that he wasn't sure that the makers of the Tenacious could do a proper and consistent heat treat for the 52100. The Golden facility might be better equipped to handle 52100. I hope they'll come up with a model in that steel.

I was wondering if this could be a possibility in the future or have I missed the boat already?

Very hard to get outside of Japan and VERY Expensive per pound.....

The only way to really have it done would be to have the blades made and heat treated over in Japan and shipped to the USA for final assembly.

Not sure if it would be cost effective though compared to current Military's, even sprint runs.

The steel isn't magic performance wise, it's the knives, mostly kitchen knives and how they are ground (VERY THIN) that make the difference and they are at high hardness.

Put it in a typical Military and the performance wouldn't be what people would think due to blade and edge geometry compared to the other steels used in the Military's.

The bottom line really is the knives wouldn't be cheap at all and the performance won't be as hyped.

Yup, I mentioned carbon steels in Golden made folders over on the spyderco forum and got mixed opinions. With the popularity of Super Blue I do not see why 52100 wouldn't be equally popular. I have a 52100 mule and have found it to be terrific. I would love a Para2 in 52100.

Aogami Super Blue is popular in kitchen knives, mostly over in Japan were it's made and is regarded as the high end choice for kitchen knives.

The steel is hard to get outside of Japan and it's expensive.

Most of the knives available are higher end and as I said kitchen knives so the popularity would be as kitchen knives would be.

But then even more Kitchen knives are made from White #2 percentage wise over Aogami Super Blue due to the White steel being more economical for the masses.

Yes Spyderco offered 3 limited runs in Aogami Super Blue, two folders and one Mule Team.

While popular over in Japan, mostly due to tradition and it is their high end steel along with ZDP-189.

Here in the US, well other than in kitchen knives, mostly custom or semi customs it's very limited as they are shipped from Japan for the most part with the exception being Murray Carter and his knives are not cheap.

So I am not sure where you get the idea that Aogami Super Blue is popular.

An example of a popular steel would be N690 that sees extensive use over in Europe and other parts of the world along with 1095 that is used mostly in budget knives (Gas Station knives) etc....

Popularity means sales and actual use and the cheap low alloy steels are used much more because they are cheap as are MOST of the knives sold in the world percentage wise.

MOST people aren't knife people outside of the knife forums so they tend to buy what is economical and easily available on the shelves in places like Wal-Mart or dollar stores.

Ankerson, I am referring to the popularity of the SB calys, delica and Endura since this is the Spyderco forum. They had no problem selling them so I believe they are/were popular. I was referring to their popularity as a sprint run steel in the spyderco product line which I believe they were. SB's popularity in Japan and in kitchen knives is not all that relevant to its use in spyderco's edc folders. You seem to really dislike this idea but obviously not everyone does. You seemed to attack the idea in the other thread as well as in this one. I still believe a golden made sprint in 52100 would be well recieved. Just as well as the previous SB sprints from Japan. Just remember, you don't have to buy one. I do not use my knives on rope and cardboard so the high wear resistant high carbide steels you favor are not my only desire. I like S110V a lot but I myself see a use for a 52100 para2 or LW native in my rotation. :)

They offered a mule, a caly 3, a caly, 3.5, a delica, an endura, a stretch, a ladybug, and a dragonfly and manbug are still coming. That is quite a few sprints.
