Spyderco Military or BM RSK

I'll try this again because the left wing censors want to limit my freedom of speech:

Axis = Cadillac
Liner Lock = PONTIAC = Poor Ole Neophyte Thinks It's A Cadillac

I like the Spyderco Military because of its lightweight in such a big folder, cuts like crazy, large opening hole, great ergos. It's the one I grab for first, great knife.

To me, it depends upon whether it is my only knife carried.

I like both, but when carrying only a single knife, I would choose to carry an RSK.

The Military is an exceptional design, but at this point I reserve liner-lock knives for light to medium duty use only (and own only Military and BM 800 models with this lock design at this point - both reliable locking designs).

so a sebenza is a frame lock not a liner lock correct? What do you guys think of the compression lock? doesnt the manix and paramilitary come with a compression lock?

so a sebenza is a frame lock not a liner lock correct?

Yup.

What do you guys think of the compression lock?

I love the compression lock on my Para-military. It is solid, easy to clean and easy to verify that it is engaged. Also, as it wears, it maintains it's secure lock.

doesnt the manix and paramilitary come with a compression lock?

Para-milli yes, Manix no. The Manix is a lockback. You may have been thinking of the A.T.R., which has a compression lock.

Thanks for the clarification. sorry for the newbie ?s. An ATR is what?

RSK hands down. I have both the large and small RSK and carry the large model evey day. Axis lock is great, can be opened and closed with one hand and I have never had a problem with grit. The blade profile on the RSK is also very desireable to me. The handle on the RSK is not an issue for me. G!) is nice, but i like the size and feel of the RSK.

I actually got to feel both today and the BMgrip fits my hand better even though i like the g10 better.

This knives are in different class. Plastic handle just low it down and you can not compare it to Military, it is in higher class, fair comparison will be Endura. It may be close in price but it is just because BM is bit overpriced.

If you keep that aside - Military is well known for many years and became a legend. It is light, slim - comfortable for any pocket. It has full gring, excellent blade shape, outstanding grip by shape and surface - etc... it is almost ideal. I choose Military between this two without any doubts (and I have like 4 already).

Axis lock is good and better in some aspects then liner, however in practical use Military lock can easy compete any axis - not too often you knife need to hold 1,000 lbs. of back pressure, really.

Thanks, Vassili.

You can compare the Ritter to the Military. Here we are, doing it. Some, like me, will chose the Ritter over the Mili.

"Higher class" doesn't mean better.

I'll take a 943 Osborne over a Sebenza, of which i have owned three. But that's another topic .. :D

Sure higher class does not mean better in absolute case, however usually it does mean better - in particulas G10 much better then plastic.

You may do compare things from different class, but it is sometimes pointless. Like compare cow to horse... I think fair comparison will be with Endura or Delica.

Anyway in this case it is clear that Milli out perform in any positions (except 1000 lbs. load on lock).

And of course Military sharpness out of the box is outstanding - way ahead of anybody (but Microtech).

Thanks, Vassili.

We're not comparing a "cow to a horse", these are two knives.

G10 is much better than Noryl GTX. How? Because it feels nicer? Looks prettier?

Modern polymers are very strong. How many people feel they can depend on Glock pistols with "plastic" handles?

In my experience the Mili does not perform better than the Ritter. The Ritter is much smoother in operation, completely ambidextrous and much more ergonomic. These are some of the reasons that I usually choose to carry it and not the Mili.

Military's sharpness out of the box is way ahead of anybody? I've had Victorinox knives that came sharper than my Mili. They had plastic handles too ;).

While I do believe that the liner-lock is inferior to the axis-lock, I still think that the Military is the overall better performer.
The larger handle is just fantastic in the grip.
The large thumb-hole works better than any thumb-stud that I have ever used.
And the large full flat grind makes the Military one of the best slicers in the world of knives.
And for the price the Military is definitely the better buy.
In fact, I don't even think the RSK performs significantly better than the standard 551 Griptilian.

So between the Military and the RSK I would choose the Military.
And if I just had to have the axis-lock, then I would choose the standard 551 Griptilian over the RSK.

Bummer!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Without going into to much detail, as I've been in contact with spyderco warranty and the knife is on its way back, my bg42/cf millie and I had an incident this morning. I'm not one of the "i like to pry really hard with my folders" types so this surprised me, especially given the medium I was prying(cardboard box). I'm sure that the situation will be resolved in a positive way for everyone, so lets not have everyone lambaste me about posting about this.

Good for you. I guess, I understand you completely. On my measurements I did on thread test Only military shows 60 gramm result, same as Microtech and Kiku Matsuda. All others fall behind - best 90 but majority 100-130.

But according to you it is worse then "Victorinox" and "they had plastic handles too". I am not sure how plastic handle is related to sharpness - are you just like plastic and value this in knife more then everything else? From this point of view of course Milli just don't have it... But it is still better in all other positions.

Thanks, Vassili.

Minor correction - G10 is fiberglass, CF is carbon fiber, less strong but lighter...

Thanks, Vassili.
