Spyderco Military S30V OR Benchmade 710 D2 for EDC?

So it's settled. Get the 710 or the Military.

 I concur :D

I have both and they are great knives. You really can't go wrong.

That said.... if I am going to carry a large folder I usually go for this:

An 806-701 AFCK's S30V blade mounted in a 805 TSEK's G10 handle - a knife that opens and cuts like a Mili .. but with the fully lined,Axis Lock-sexiness of a 710.

Welcome to Bladeforums!!

Hard choice. I am a Spyderco person, I like Spyderco's(just received my CPM D2 Military yesterday), but I also really like the 710 from Benchmade. Between those 2 I would have to pick the Military, BECAUSE I am quicker with the opening hole on the Military.
You might be quicker with a thumb stud.
Let us know what you decide.

Wow thanks for all of the replies. I think after all the positive feedback from both I will end up getting both. I have decided to get the 710 first. Will probably pick up the Spyderco by the end of November. Thanks!

This is the answer how it always should be :p:thumbup:

I would choose the 710 but if it were a choice between the Spyderco Manix and the 710 it would be a lot harder. I much prefer the lock on the manix to the Military or even the 710.
It also has a more solid feel than the Military. The Manix is basicly the Military with a lockback rather than a linerlock.

Well what bad luck I have. I am ordering both knives right now anyway...

Last night I was at a bonfire and I guess I dropped my Kershaw at some point. I looked for over an hour through gravel and wet leaves. There goes a $70 knife.

A good excuse to buy both so I have a back up though. : )

I think that also means that you need to buy yourself a quality flashlight:D. I edc a Night Ops Gladius modified to 180+ lumens. I would also suggest Novatac lights, great stuff.

Sorry to read about you losing a good knife. Great to read that you need to buy a Spyderco AND a new flashlight.

I have them both. For SD, the 710 is superior. The large round hole of the Military is a touch faster for opening, but the 710 has better protection against sliding up on the blade and much more security against accidental lock release - the Military has a very exposed liner lock. The 710 seems slender, but is thicker across and very strong, and I think it fits better in the hand for the types of things you do with SD, and feels better when you strike something with a lot of force. Go for the 710 in D2.

The Military is a great all around task knife, especially in the "camp knife" role... its just not a good SD knife, in my opinion.

AHHH yes, buy both!! Now why didn't I think of that?.......wait a second, I did think of that now that you mention it. The 710 in D2 is the one that usually ends up in my pocket though.:)

Cheers

I do have a good flashlight and I still could not find it. :(

I have a Surefire A2 Aviator and a Ultrafire C5 with extension tube.

Hopefully no one hits it with a lawn mower.:thumbdn:
