Spyderco Military vs. Spyderco Pattada

Spyderco Military has always been a favorite of mine going back to my first one in September 2005 with a Satin ComboEdge blade of S30V and Black G-10.

Recently, I got a Spyderco Pattada and I'm very impressed and in most ways prefer it to the Military! Pattada is actually lighter even though it has full liners (both are liner locks). Also, it carries better and smaller than the Military except for overall thinness. Pattada is a handy and compact folder with a near 4" blade and extremely well-made in Italy. The 3D machined G-10 is nicely contoured and very comfortable. It's tip-up carry vs. tip-down for Military. The side by side picture is with CTS-204P steel Military but the data below is S30V. Both Pattada and Military are great slicers.

I think the Pattada is a real sleeper in the Spyderco product line.

As an aside, my old Military from 2005 has a 3.93" blade whereas one of my latest has a 4.05" blade length!

Ram,

Would you installing a pic from the top down that would show the blade point and also how thick the handles are?

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need other angles or close-ups.

That's great man, thanks mucho. In that pic the blades lengths actually look the same, but you get a lot less handle with the Pattada (not a bad thing in my book).

Pattada's blade length is only 0.15" less than the Military. Interestingly, Pattada has a 3.75" cutting edge vs. 3.69" for the Military!

Pattada is like a more compact Military and I wish it a lot of success so that Spyderco can churn out new models. Perhaps a CF model with M390. I believe they're made by Fox or Viper Knives of Maniago, Italy.

Thanks for the comparo, been eyeballing the Pattada

Same here.
I keep trying to find something to push me over the edge to actually purchasing one. It looks like a simple beauty that is probably great to use!

Thanks for those shots RamZar!

Nice comparison! I will eventually get one and have it dressed up by Steve Ketchen - some wood scales would look great.

How's the thumb hole accessibility for lefties on this one?

Not as good as for righties. You have to use the corner of your thumb so it's slower. Best way is to pinch it using your left thumb and middle finger and then continue with the thumb.

I'm very impressed by this knife. Extremely smooth pivot, no blade play and solid lock up. I must say the tip seems much more delicate than the milli. And it's the dullest spyderco I've tried out of the box. No regrets though. It's a keeper.

It must be true! You're the second person with a relatively dull edge on the Pattada.

Mine was very sharp!

The ethnic series has had a lot of neat designs. I've owned a bunch but never kept them. I'm interested in the 'Lil Nilakka.

Is the liner lock on this guy as sharp on your thumb as the double bevel or similar knives? I adore the liner lock on the military, but my double bevel did not agree with my thumb.

The liners on the Pattada are very smooth and rounded.

Just threw that out there because out of all my spidies it's the only one. No big deal. Not saying it's the case here but sometimes a little constructive criticism is beneficial.

Bump.
Looking at the Pattada, there is no reason why Spyderco could not design a Kwaiken folder. Please? :)
