Spyderco Military

I'm sure I could probably get by with something less exotic (and less expensive) that the Military, but you know how it is when you see something that fills your eye like this does, and you just WANT one!?
The Military is really not "exotic". It is very simple in its design and very superior in its construction/materials.

^ Kelvin good choice! I agree that if you see something that appeals to you. Do not settle for seconds just wait and buy the real thing, it just makes it that much more special!

Kelvin.. sounds to me like you need a Military and a Victorinox Farmer or some other Multi tool and you'd be set for life!

I have an S30V Millie and carry it more and more. It is as good a slicer as you are going to find. It's limitation, I think, is that it is truly a knife that you only want to use as a knife -- not a prybar, trowel, screwdriver, etc.

In contrast, I would feel much more comfortable prying something open with my Police -- not that it is necessarily a great idea, but you get the idea...

The Military is one of the knives that has about the past 20 years of production knife knowledge and technology distilled into one package. To me it is kind of the endpoint of linerlock designs, no need to look further.

Well said!

Phew!! Thanks for all the advice and info. After reading all your comments, I've decided I'll hang out for the Military......after spending a long time scrutinising the blades, I've re-considered and I think I'll go with the satin finish/plain edge.

Uses?? Mmmmmm - well, I live on a 100 acre property just out of Canberra (the capital of Australia) and you'd be amazed at the number of times I NEED a blade and I don't have one with me. This beauty I could keep with me at all times.

I'm just curious, but where will you be purchasing the blade?(customs here really suck)

I sorta wish a would bought a Millie or even a Para Millie instead of buying 4

other knives. I dont regret to purchases, but now I think the Millie is all 4 of

the knives combined in 1.

P.S. the 4 knives were each in the sub $60 category and consist of 1

benchmade, 2 spydercos, and 1 kershaw. Their great knives but I would been

better off with just 1.

While I'm a big fan of the Military, the only real alternative I could suggest is the BM 710 McHenry & Williams. I have no idea how much these are selling for these days though...

I recently bought my BM 710 for $102 plus shipping. I like it better than the Millie because it has the same blade length but is remarkably smaller and has the Axis lock. I prefer D2 steel and the saber grind on a large folder.

I just got a Delica 4 with zdp-189 steel, which I will be sending to Tom Krein for a full flat regrind, and that will reportedly make an excellent slicer.

 Oooooops - I'm currently talking to Julian of J's Knives-N-More about getting one from his outlet in the US. I know they're available quite freely over here, but his price is the cheapest I've found to date. Do you think there'll be a hassle?
