I recently bought a Spyderco Moran FB01P from an Ebay seller in Australia. It is in a Sprderco box with the papers. But it doesn't have a hole in the blade. All the others I have seen on the web have the hole in the blade. Were there version of this knife produced without the hole? Or are the photos wrong and the production versions do not have the trademark hole?

Thanks for reading.

I think a few (maybe the earlier ones) came without the hole, then it was added later. I think they do that so it will be compatible with their Spyderco display stand.

Both the FB01 and FB02 were originally made without the hole. After all, they are fixed blades and don't need an opener. In recent years, others have been copying Spyderco trademarks more frequently, so the hole has been added to knives that don't need it for function simply to strengthen brand recognition.

Thanks guys, I thought that this might have been an earlier one. I appreciate your help.

Don't remember when I bought mine, sometime in the late 80's maybe? It doesn't have a hole and came with a nice leather sheath.

IIRC Spyderco decided last year to add the (IMO unnecessary) hole on the Morans. Meanwhile I've seen a lot of FB02 Morans with hole but none FB01 so far.
