ive been collecting for about 4 years and i notices that i only want spyderco knives (for folders). Why? because there is so many different designs, shapes and sizes. I mean i love kershaw, boker, Kabar becker, ESEE...........list goes on. but i use all of them. When it comes to spyderco i cant bring myself to but a single mark on them. Anyone else feel the same way>?

I'm also a Spyderco collector. I just appreciate that they are designed and built for function rather than form. They a meant to be tools and they are good tools. I have lots of marks on lots of Spyderco blades, however. You should use yours. They work very well.

I'm a Spyderco collector too. In the past I've kept a number of them in mint condition but lately I've been using them or selling them. While I can appreciate the design, fit and finish of an unused knife, it's not until I use a knife that I get a good idea of how well it works. There's still the problem of a lengthy rotation in order to use them all but I guess that's a good problem to have :D.

im new to collecting and really like spyderco i just bought the persistence...are there any knives you guys would recomend

I too collect Spydercos, but I like Kershaw/ZT too. They have a multitude of high quality collectable knives, the new stuff that is around the corner is awesome. In particular one that has recently caught my attention is the Kershaw Tilt.

You need to get a Military, Paramilitary, Manix 2, Stretch, Endura, Delica, and a few Salt knives.

From a collector's standpoint, I would be hesitant to heavily use any discontinued models that are going for healthy sums on the secondary markets. For models that are readily available and not TOO expensive (delica, endura, military, etc), well.. they are meant to be used.

I like Spyderco knives and have a few but I bought them to use not collect. I'll say that most are very functional knives with very well thought out designs and excellent materials. The only models that I may be hesitant to use would be the highly sought after models (S90v Manix 2, S30v Manix 2, S90v Military, BG42 Military...). However if it was a model that I truly loved I would definately use it because of their upgraded materials. I try to only buy knives that I will use now days.

40+ Spydercos with more coming... I'm only at my 2nd year with this knife hobby so I'm setting a max number of Spyderco knives I'll ever own at 100. Though I have other makes I only use Spydercos. I may have BMs and Bokers but they never get used. Do I baby my knives? No, but as a teacher I do not need my knives for hard use. I used to mind scratches on the blades but as time went by it didn't matter so much no more; unless it's caused by someone else.

i edc a Ti ATR, which is disco'd, i dont feel too bad about it though because its a great, lite, thin, easy to carry knife to mention a few things, and i also have 3 of the things, 2 LNIB PE's and 1 LNIB SE, and a slightly used SS SE to boot.

its the only knife i own exact multiples of.

I carry and use a blue G-10 Manix 2, I also have a foliage green one on the way that I intend to use also. I don't buy knives to have them just sit around, I use them but I don't use them hard, I work as a Court Bailiff so no need to be hard on them. I have some beaters that I use so that I don't ruin my Spyderco's.

I got only 7 spydies, but from modern folder's Spyderco might be most collectable knife (thanks to Kopa and sprint runs) but perhaps most collectable pocket knife still is Case with multitude of patterns, steels and handle materials. If that is not enough add multitude of shields.

I am a little late on this thread but I just got into collecting Sypdies myself. I never really "collected", though I did buy a couple of customs. The problem with that is its hard to justify using a knife that costs $500+. I don't know why Spydies did not appeal to me in the past, but like others on this thread stated, it seems that Spydies are built for function as well. I just bought my first Spyderco this week and I am waiting for it to get delivered. My first Spyderco: Wayne Goddard lightweight (OD GREEN) Sprint Run. I will let you know how I like it.

Oh I am also new to this forum and I look forward to communicating with you guys further. FYI, Tuffthumbs - I enjoy your YouTube reviews. Good job Man!

That's why I traded off an immaculate original C95 Manix for an ESEE. I prefer to use a knife outdoors, so my molly coddling the Manix was pointless to me. This is not to say that any single view or mentality is superior, just that they are different, and all have their place. Collecting and appreciating fine tools can bring its own pleasure. I simply felt that it was pointless for me to keep a knife that I was worried about using because of its collector value. I have the highest respect for Spyderco as they have demonstrated their integrity and professionalism to me privately.

on the other hand, I use a knife much more rare and collectible than an original manix, not to mention fetching much higher prices. used it nearly every day for two years, my main camping knife. rain knife, sun knife, it did it all.

unless your only goal with collecting knives is to ultimately resell them, I don't understand the fear of using them.

Wow, a blast from the past. Here is my one spydie limited edition, a Caly 3. Don't think it is collectible, but I like it.

Production blades are collectible, but beware, there's a whole other world of semi-custom and custom blades out there. Eventually, most find their interest shifts to these. I have a good variety of production and semi-customs..and a few beautiful custom blades. I've owned a few Spydercos, but I always thought that big hole in the blade looked like a weak point. That may be more of a personal aesthetic thing than a everyday use issue-just my preference. I know they make a good value product, and I do love my Sharpmaker.
