Spyderco Native 5 Performance Testing and Review.

Older thread, but since my new son-n-law has one of these that I touched up on a Shapton 2k glass bench stone for him, I was pretty pleased at how well it took an edge, and your review adds to that fact, mine should arrive this week ;)

Thanks again for all your reviews!

Thanks Gary. :)

So.. the C41G5 has S35V
If I'm reading right the C41GP5 also has S35V but the picture on this site clearly shows S30V on the blade. The weight is also considerably different... almost a full ounce. I'm wondering if Blade HQ is just a$$ed up and doesn't know how to read.

So... are there G10 Natives with 2 different blade steels?

It's just a stock photo, sometimes details like blade steel are incorrect. Read the bottom of the picture:

I've been carrying this knife for over a year now. I have been nothing but impressed with its performance. It locks up like a bank vault and the its very ergonomic. The blade steel is great for day to day tasks, it rarely needs to be sharpened and when it does it takes an edge fairly easily. Definitely would buy again and recommend to anyone looking for a great EDC.

I have three Natives and bought a fourth one for my girlfriend so she'd have her own instead of having to borrow mine. :)

Jim, I bought one in S110V and the fluted Ti model with S35VN. Spyderco has been hitting them out of the park!

Finally broke down last night and ordered a Native 5 G10.
Shopping for G10 to do some custom scales for it now.

Found an OK looking deep carry pocket clip for it on FleaBay. Anyone have any other sources for a good one. Skeletonized would be better... I don't think I could do a wire clip unless I cut out slots for it in the G10.

Just got it today... what a beauty. This is such an awesome knife.
About an inch longer (OAL) compared to my Leatherman Crate.
If this is the heavy version I can't even imagine what the light weight one is like. It doesn't seem heavy, but it seems solid and without a doubt well built.

I'm used to carrying tip down on my Crater and I haven't used a lockback knife in ages. I think the last one I carried was a Gerber Gator (still have that as well). So muscle memory always has me going for the liner lock. I'll have to retrain my brain.

Two things I wish it had: 1/3 or 1/4 serrated edge and a liner lock version. I love the profile of this knife so if they made a liner lock partial serrated version I'd be on it in a heartbeat. But so far I love this knife. I wish my grandfather were still alive, I'd buy him one. I know he could appreciate something this nice.
