I bought a Spyderco Native 5 a few months ago. I carried it as an EDC blade for 5 days and then notice that the pocket clip was loose. The torx screws were tight and secure but the pocket clip would move from side to side. I sent the knife into Spyderco and 3 weeks later I had a new Native 5. I carried the new knife for 3 days and the same thing started to happen again. Has anyone else had a problem like this with there Spyderco pocket clip? This was my first Spyderco knife. I think it may have somthing to do with the G-10 scales. I love the looks and the feel of the Native 5 but the pocket clip is pissing me off. To date this Native 5 is the most expensive knife I own.
I have never had a problem like this with any of my knives with a pocket clip. After I noticed this problem I checked all of my other knives that have a pocket clip. No problem with non of the other knives. most of my knives with a pcket clip are Kershaws. I also have one mini Grip, a Barrage and one large Grip. My Kershaw Storm 2 I bought new in 2004 I used it every day as a truck/bus mechanic....Pocket Clip never came loose. I did have to tighten one frame screw on the Storm 2 last year. All other knives no problem.

What makes you think it has something to do with the G10 scales? That model has steel liners that the clip screws tap into.

I belive it might be the G-10 because the pocket clip slids across the scale. The torx screws are tight and secure. I'm not sure this is the what is causing the proble but it is a problem.

The only thing I can think of is a burr on the liners, clip or screws. Strange

Samething happened with two knives. First the Native 5 I bought, and then the replcement. Just wondering if anyone else has experianced this with there Spyderco knives.

I dont own native 5 [YET] . With all my knives / that includes Spydercos ,I have allways undone the pocket clip screws and put on a small drop of lock tight and retightened to a desirible torque /tightness just to be on the safe side and have never suffered this problem. I heard some reports of loose pocket clip when retained with only 2 screws. Sorry not able to rectify your fault but will be looking with intrest at this thread . Good luck. Faron

Spyderco wire clips usually show a very slight side to side movement due to the nature of the material and the way they are anchored, but the hourglass clips are generally rock solid and rigid. I just checked my Native 5 as well as all my other Spydies with non wire clips and there is zero play as you are describing.

My thought here is that perhaps the screw holes are a bit over sized which is allowing some play, even though the screws themselves are tight.

Mine doesn't do that. The screw holes are tapped into the liner over the metal spacer. Could be that the screws are too long, you could try filing the ends down a bit.

All screws are tight but pocket clip moves.

That sucks man - sorry to hear about your problems. I've got a FFG/CF Native 4 and a Native 5 (both have the same pocket clip), and neither have that issue. You might contact Spyderco and let them know this is your second knife to do this - they will make it right for you.

No such issue with my Native 5. I would second the motion to send it to Spyderco to let them have a look at it.

I've sent the knife to Spyerco. Spyderco sent me a new Native 5. Same problem with new Knife. I'm thinking now that The knife I sent to Spyderco was just mailed back to me. I emailed Spyderco this past Friday (March 9th). I have not heard from them. I like the Native 5 and I was thinking of getting a Para Mil 2 but now I am hesitent to buy any Spyderco knife. The Para Mil 2 hyas the same pocket clip.

I don't know what to tell you, Otis, my man. I can imagine that this is frustrating. Maybe try calling them?

don't know if that's just me but if i try hard enough i can make most of my knives' clips move side to side. no matter how tight the screws are. it's just that the holes in the clip are larger than the screws, it allows the clip to move perhaps a couple milimeters at it's tip. it sounds like a non issue to me though. as long as the clip is tight and it serves its purpose ....

I'm looking at Native 5 that I've recently picked up but clip is tightly held by 3 screws and no movement at all.
How much of movment are you talking about?
Perhaps an ovesized mounting holes on the clip itself

After the loose clip on my Spyderco I checked the pocket clips on all of my Knives. Non were loose. The clip will move when I carry the knife in my pocket. And I can also move clip with my hand. Torx screws are tight and secure.

If you have another knife where the pocket clip screws are the same size and pitch as those on the Native why not swap them out and see if the problem repeats itself. The ones on your Mini Grip should be pretty close.

Couldn't you strip the screws by swapping them from different brands like that?
I'd just carry it clipless if it bothered me that much...because shipping and waiting sucks.
