ok all, whats the final word on this knife?

worth the money or not

stand up in the long run or not?

help me decide.........................

Strong Lock, Strong handle material, and a premium blade steel. Not to mention extremely ergonomic and a very functional blade shape.........It's a steal, I love mine. If they have several go thru them all and pick the one with the least blade play. That's what I did. The only knife with S30V for 40 bucks that I can think of.

For the price at the evil big box I think it is a great deal. Made in USA, S30V, under $40. Go for it. Let us know how you like it.

Worth the money or not??!?!! Where have you been?

It is one of the best deals in knifedom.

Standing up in the long run is not a problem with Spydercos. And until someone else offers a better knife in S30V for less, it will remain as good as of a deal as it was when it was released.

There isn't much to not like about this knife. It has a couple of minor issues, such as a small openig hole that isn't fully exposed, but it's a superb package that's compact and well thought out. Makes one of the best EDC's for that type of knife IMO.

I carried an older Gin 1 model for years before I lost it. Great knife.

it's a steal... (i said this before seeing PC356's post :) )

i cut battery cables with mine, still shaved

there is a slight nick in the blade where it hit something else while cutting, i think

it should be gone after another sharpening or two

It's my EDC as well. An awesome knife for the money! I highly recommend it....

+1
What everyone else has already said. Call Walmart ahead of time to see if they have it in stock, it'll save you the frustration from a wasted trip. (I made several futile trips.) When you talk to the sporting goods guy on the phone, ask him if he has "#60" in his knife case and whether or not he has a lot of them. That way you'll have a chance to pick the best from the bunch.

The Walmart Native is the best knife bargain that I know of. (If somebody is aware of a better buy please let me know! :D ) It's been in my edc rotation for over a year and has performed great. The Native is comfortable, lightweight, holds an edge extremely well, and isn't difficult to sharpen with a Sharpmaker... Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I just bought mine about a week ago, couldn't be more pleased with it, amazing knife for the money.

Lemme put it this way - I rotated one ( older version) in when I was worried about loosing my BM 710HS or BM 690 somewhere I couldn't recover it. I NEVER felt "under knifed."

This is probably (just IS IMO) the least expensive serious use knife you can get, followed closely by the BM Grips.

If I had to buy an EDC knife right now (no longer in corporate america, so I'm poor) this would be IT.

Is there any real difference between this Native and the other Native (the 41 model) other than the clip type?

To echo a few of the above comments: For the price, it is one of the best values going. As a knife, good strong lock-up, s30v steel, carries very well, mine came very sharp out of the box. It is also fairly sheeple friendly, and it's probably one of the very few items sold by WalMart that is actually made in the US. I have been very pleased with mine:)

my 2 cents worth,
Chris

There are no variations of the C41 as far as I know. There are older ones with different steel, different colors, black blades, but the design is exactly the same. What you get at Wal Mart is your standard plain edge, bolted on clip Native.

The Native III (C78) has a VG10 blade, a wire clip, and a "3D" handle with a bit more grip. The Native II has SS handles and an AUS10 blade.

There was also a run of Natives a long time ago made in 440A but these are different from the rest and not very nice I hear.

I had one with a bad heat treat, others have complained about lockup (BFC search to find threads.) However I like the general design a great deal, ergonomics excellent for me. I wish the hollow ground blade were thinner, or better yet that it was a full flat grind.

For the price a very good deal if you get a good one, IMO.
