Was this knife ever produced with a plain edge? If not will it be produced with a plain edge?

No, CE only AFAIK

I guess CE/SE is more functional for military type work in the sandbox...they probably don't do much woodwork

We have no plans to produce the model in a plain edge. The troops seem to, in general, prefer the combination edge. Sharpening time is not first on anyone's agenda and the serrated edge will cut longer.
