What do you think of the Spyderco Native FRN Plain Edge as an EDC? Have one? Like it?

Thanks.

Bill

I have one, it's a great little knife. I have many great little knives for edc, it's just one of many. If you like it, get it, carry it, use it.

I have a Leek, a minigrip, and a Native, staples of many peoples must have EDC's. I like the leek, i really want to like the minigrip and for it to be my favorite edc, but that daw goned cheap feeling light FRN Native just does it's job so well, it is really becoming a favorite. I took it trout fishing yesterday. It is light, fast, and slices with the best of them.

The native annoys me.

I LIKE the damn thing. But none of the models are what I want.

I like the blade with the combo edge, but I hate the grip and tip-up carry.
I like the CF grip of the Native4(with optional tip-down carry), but I don't like complete flat-grind.

If I had the money, I'd buy a Native FRN Black blade model, and a Native4 model, mix and match, then sell off the flat-grind blade on the FRN handle.

Great knife for $40, great ergos, S30V.
I cannot wait for Native4 with FFG in S30V

Yeah, I like it. I'd love it if it came with a 4-inch blade, but Spyderco likes smallish blades for some reason. The Native is a great cutter, is comfortable in the hand and, until recently, could be had for forty bucks.

I'd sure like to know what they do with those hole cut-outs, though....

I have a Native III and find it to be a great EDC.

It's a bit different than the Native.
- A bit fuller handle that is not so flat in the pocket, but is fuller in the hand.
- VG10 steel instead of S30V. The VG10 takes a very fine edge and holds it at least as well as 154CM.
- wire clip as opposed to the flat metal clip on the Native.

However, both have a choil and are very stoutly built.
I like the total blade control that the choil gives.

Either design is a winner.

Confederate, if you want a big Native they are rereleasing the Manix this year.

I had a Native III plain edge that I didn't like much and eventually found myself carrying most days. It grows on you.

The TSA took it away when I left it in my carry-on bag (forgot I had put it there) and I haven't had one for a while. I just got the carbon Fiber Native IV and the balde is very differnent than the FRN model III. So much so, I've thought about picking up a III.

There is a Native FRN in my pocket right now but I carried a Calypso Jr. ZDP this morning. The Native is easier for these old hands to one hand but that Jr. is flatter in the pocket and the ZDP factory edge cuts very, very well. Thing is the Native's blade just looks better to my eye and looks and feel of opening and closing are what it's about for me since I don't cut much of anything.

The Native III is great looking, and so is the Native IV, they will be in the pocket eventually. Too bad they aren't made with the ZDP blade.

That beautiful hollow saber, swedged blade is what first attracted me to the Native. It is definitely one of my top 5 favorite Spydies.

Another vote for the Native. I have two of them, great knives, especially for the money.

The "Wal Mart" Native is a fantastic knife---it has pushed much more expensive knives out of my EDC rotation due to its appeal.

S30V, excellent ergonomics, made in the United States of America, for $40. What's not to like there?

My positive experience with the FRN/S30V Native lead to me buying one with a black-coated blade, and also the new Native 4. A fully flat-ground blade is certainly attractive when mixed with all the other positive characteristics of this thoughtful design. The design is certainly a winner.

I love my Native also but I messed mine up. It had some side to side blade play and like a nut I thought I could fix it myself. I just barely tapped the pin with a hammer hoping to tighten it up and get rid of the side to side play and now the blade is stiff to open. It dont have no side to side wiggle anymore but its just stiff to open. I cant hardly open it with one hand now. So its put away and I am carrying my Kershaw Vapor. Hey I like the Vapor but I really loved my Native and I just dont have the money to buy another one. Now I am carrying my Vapor and a SAK with me, but the Native matched up with one of my SAKs was my carry of choice.
