Just got a SPYDERCO 1ST GEN BRK NATIVE KNIFE 440A STAINLESS STEEL for 35 bucks.never used..hope this was a good purchase....

Considering you can get new CPM S30V ones for $50, I'd say that's a terrible deal, unless you're making a collection.

Ever since Walmart stopped carrying the Native, I have not seen these knives for anywhere near $50. Where do you find a deal like that now?

ETA: That would be the Native, not the Native III. I don't know why but I like the original better. Any reason why one is better than the other?

The knife is the oringal Native from the early 90's,I know the steel is only 440A..buts its spyderco's first attempt at the Native series..35 bucks is a little more than i wanted to pay for a 440A steel butbeing a never used spyderco that is almost 20 yrs old..seemed like a decent deal...

hrm. I thought I purchased my s30v native for somewhere in the 50s of dollars. But the same site I got it from is around $63... So, not much more, but still...

I think you got a decent deal, OP. I have no experience with that steel, but I'm sure it is more than suitable for EDC chores. And the Native is my all around favorite design of my current Spydies. It carries very well, feels phenomenal in hand, and it also is very appealing to the eye.

Despite woning some spyderco most of what I have are the economic ones...bird series, Native III, Tenacious and Persistence...I do have a Endure Clip it, V10 steel...but i don;t have the knowledge background to what is a good spyderco buy...with this Native it was too old for me to find a lot of info in a short amount of time...i hate gettig hosed on a knife deal.

Um, yeah, those BRK Natives weren't the best quality, and I've heard stories about them. Yup, you need to check up on the return policy, or keep it as a collector's item. You'll see the quality, or lack thereof as soon as you open the package. THat's not saying they are horrible, just not what I would consider Spyderco Normal

The S30V Natives come up for sale on ebay occasionally, and I think you'd be better off waiting for a deal on one of those.

It might be worth seeing if Spyderco would trade you back on the BRK. They might be willing to make good for you, just to keep the knife from circulating and giving them a bad name. Just a thought...

Let us know what happens.

I'd like one just as a collectors knife. I think it's a good deal. You only paid $35. It's a part of spyderco's history. Not a user though, that knife's quality and steel is not on par with the current spyderco natives. If you want a user spyderco, I'd recommend a s30v, they are slim and feel almost one with the hand.

I've had a few deals (with knives) in my time that weren't very smart, on my side. I just chalked it up to, "I got a knife, and a lesson, for $$.$$." Most, or all, weren't worth the effort to return. If you plan to carry & use your BRK, I'd maybe see about getting a better made version, with better steel. 440A is okay for a user steel, but there are much better materials out there.

You could do what I do with some of my 'lesson'** knives - make them your loaners. If they're lost, broken or 'acquired', you're not out much.

thx - cpr

I could swear I bought my S30v Native at Walmart years ago for only about $40. I was just talking to a buddy of mine a few weeks ago about how they went up in price so much.

I am unsure what to do with this knife..i actually emailed the sller and stated if he didn;t mail it out, maybe it would be better to refund me now..I was thinking about getting benchmade mini ambush, maybe i'll got for that...

It didn't really "go up in price" it has always been a $60-$70 knife. Just a kickin' deal for a while through WM.
