Spyderco NAtive

I could swear I bought my S30v Native at Walmart years ago for only about $40.

You probably did. I almost bought one a couple years ago at WM for $39.95, and didn't. I've been kicking myself ever since. :grumpy:

I think last night's purchase of the old version Native I was really impulsve, buying knives is like a addiction, if i don;t buy something after a while..i just buy anything...I have the Native III already...I need to go to Knife Buying anonymous.

I have to have between 70-100 knives..sadly mostly are so-so at best..I sold a lot of my CRKT, Low End Kabars, Harley Davidson Knives. I try and stick to Kershaw, Spyderco, Benchmade, i don;t know enough about the more exotic knives...I need to sell off soe more i still have too many crkt;s

I have the Spyderco Native that I bought at Wally World a few years ago with S30v steel. I loved the knife but it had some side to side wiggle and the blade chipped a little. A friend of mine told me to tap the pin and it would tighten up the blade. It did but it also made the blade hard to open. Now it sits in a drawer. I wish I had never done that. I would love to get it fixed so I could carry it again. I dont know if Spyderco can fix that or even if they would. I haven"t tried to call them. I guess I should call them and find out. It was a great knife to carry.

The solution is actually pretty simple - find another knife with a blade of the same thickness. It should fit snugly between the bolsters, on top of the blade pivot. Work it side-to-side just a little, gently, for a few seconds, and check the opening tightness. Do this as much as needed until the opening is as easy as you like it to be.

Blade chipping: Can't help you there. I've destroyed blades trying to 'fix' them, so I'll stay out of this one, and let someone else answer.

Thats where I got mine, think it was a little cheaper though, but I believe it was 2006 when I got mine.

i have the vg-10 one, great little knife, still solid after a lot of use, no side to side blade play , even if it has no liners, just plain FRN
still , a little bulky , (it is called 3D after all ...), compared to the "regular" spyderco knife

How does the Spyderco Native III rate?

I prefer the wider grip and the less aggressive jimping on the the Native III compared to the regular Native. The Native III has a wider grip so it is a bit more pocket filling than the regular Native. I also like how the swedge tapers back smoothly and doesn't abruptly stop like it does on the regular Native.

I prefer the wire clip also on the Native III. The reason I purchased it was to replace my beloved Co-Pilot. The clip on the Co-Pilot used to get hung up on the worn vinyl (sometimes puncturing) while sliding out of the truck seats on my job. I didn't pay attention to it one day and someone got a nice discontinued knife.

The only thing that might be a negative is that the FRN handle on the Native III looks "cheaper" in comparison to the FRN handle on the regular Native.

edit: I also had a hard time adjusting to a tip up carry after years of a tip down carry. After some adjustment the tip up deployment is preferable now.

Spyderco Native III is an awesome user. I EDCed on all summer in '09 and I though it was great. The VG-10 by spyderco is my favorite EDC steel. My only problem with it is not being able to adjust the pivot. The clip is really nice though, it's tempered so it doesn't bend out of shape. It isn't as thin as the native, but I think it's more robust. There was no movement when it locked.

Thanks Sal Glesser for the info. I think Ill contact them and send it in to be fixed. Even if it cost me, its worth fixing it. I love that knife. Thanks again for the info. Oh and Orca8589, thanks for your Idea as well but Im just gonna try to send in for repairs. I dont mind paying because it was my fault.

There's Sal, making this place feel all cozy again. :D

You know, buying knives from some folks is like coming home, after being away for awhile. You just know you're going to be taken care of.
