Anyone else see this thing pop on sites for pre-order???

i'm now torn between the m390 tsek and this beauty...

I saw it in the Spyderco 2011 catalog last week and immediately wanted one. Beautiful, unique, and (from the looks of it) very functional.

As for the M390 TSEK vs. Navaja choice, I've already paid a deposit on the TSEK and am really looking forward to it, so I guess I'll just have to get both. :D

I'd go with the TSEK. I have one of the old 440C ones, and it's a great knife. I love Spyderco knives, but I find that Navaja to be one of the ugliest knives I've ever seen. I don't know why, but it just looks like a monstrosity to me.

a monstrosity? you've got to be kidding

i mean i'm the first to admit that spyderco makes some hideous knives but this is one of few that appeal to me

I usually like most Spyderco designs, but the Navaja just looks all wrong to me. The handle looks disproportionate to the blade in my eyes. And the top of the blade makes the whole blade look overly chunky. I think that is what throws it off, aesthetically speaking. This is just my opinion.

I think it's quite ugly.

Also, I never would have guessed that it was supposed to be a navaja.

It doesn't look like what I pictured in my mind when I originally heard about it, and that may disappoint some folks. Like most, I was expecting something long and slim. I can see the Navaja influence (particular in the blade) but it does look quite different from many traditional ones (which may not be bad). Probably fair to call it a modernized version.

Just noticed in the description: "Carraca (ratcheting sound)"
Wonder how that was achieved and why do we need a sound effect from the knife?
Not sure that is a plus.

The more I look at photos of it, its growing on me. Interesting design, substantial blade. CF handles. Handle shape could be good or bad depending on your hands, but looks like it should provide a secure palm filling grip.

The 4-way clip should please some folks, but I really really do NOT like the appeanrace of all those holes in the bolster.

I'l probaly be sending an email Monday to get on the pre-order list.

Maybe I'm just really bad at this but I cant find any pics of the spyderco navaja anywhere i look. Could someone please post one?

I'm in! A Navaja and a Spyderco Persian 2, I guess New Years resolutions were made to be broken. :D

Here you go, Knifecenter's picture. I like it, but I like folders with heavy blades.

I didn't know they had figured the lock out. Thats awesome, funky looking, but interesting for sure.

I actually really like this knife, Considering the interesting history behind them, probably make a good self defense knife, with the "caraca" sound used to scare people off. Honestly it looks sorta futuristic and less traditional in my opinion.

It's a beauty. A timless design with modern attributes. Splendid.
Spyderco always brings us those phenomenal designs. They never cease to surprise. I love Schempp. I'm really enjoying the Barong and Khukri folders; and together with the Chokwe and Shabaria, the Navaja would really complete that collection of some nice historically proven blade shapes.

I don't know how I feel about this knife. At first glance I don't really feel it. However I felt the same about the Barong, also by Schempp. Which I later fell in love with. So, I feel like I can't make a real decision until I have handled one. Interesting concept for sure. I'm hoping that I like it.
