Howdy all,

Iam new to Spyderco knives...I recently acquired a tenacious and an Endura from online trades. I have only had them a day, but I can easily see that they are quality knives... at this point I'm actually liking the tenacious. more than the Endura, but only time will tell for sure. Just wanted to gather opinions on these knives. I normally hang out in the Wilderness and survival skill section. I'm looking for a folder to edc that I can use to supplement a large blade when out in the bush. I've been drooling over the paramiltary, or maybe even a stainless handled delica. I was wondering how a compression lock differs from a liner lock. Well Thanks for listening. I'm now a spydie fan. and will probably be visiting here a little more often.

Cool bro.. I see the "spydie-bug" bit you... That happens to the best of us.... As far as Endura and Tenacious... Its easy to like the tenacious over the endura because of the G-10 handles and the blade grind on the tenacious.... Both are great knives.. It just depends on if you like a thicker steel lined handle or the lite-weight FRN style handle... I give big credit to the endura because it's a lock back, while the tenacious is liner-lock.. I don't care for liners AT ALL, but spyderco's liner-locks are one of a kind and I've never had one fail...but it's still a liner lock.... All in all, Endura would get my heavier tasks, while Tenacious would get my less heavier tasks.. I'm not saying tenacious couldn't handle it, I know it could.. But the liner-lock is a issue for me personally... Now on to the para-millie...I have owned a para-millie... And it is a proven hard-use knife... I personally don't care for the compression lock... I do prefer it over a liner-lock.. But in my opinion, you can't beat Lock-backs....... Stainless-steel handles scratch very easy, they are heavy, but solid.... I don't care for them... but to each his own... Hope this helps some....

Beeing a Spyderhead myself I vote for the Delica with FRN handle.
Its lighter and the current version is screwed together. The SS handle is fine to, but for outdoors I would choose the cheaper FRN.

The Tenacious is like the Red Class Benchmades, made in China.

Endura and Delica are made in Seki, Japan. Besides that, the VG10 used by the japanese spiders is better than the 8Cr13MoV (its not that bad actually).

Maybe you should have a look at the Byrd-line, nice entry-level blades at reasonable cost...

A Ladybug is a fine Mini-Knife....
Goes whereever I go...

Thanks for the feedback, and the warm welcome so far... I think my next purchase will be a frn delica for edc. and maybe a dragon fly as well.. Keep the advice coming from. as mentioned what I'm looking for really is something I can edc. that can handle light woods loafing tasks to compliment a larger camp style blade...

I EDC a Para, and it's what I normally have on me when I hike (along with a SAK Farmer). But, the compression lock is strong, and it's an awesome knife.

RescueRiley,
Welcome, we hope you enjoy your time with us.

The Para is an excellent knife, one of my favorite EDC's. It's all the knife I generally need in the woods since I've got an axe of some sort with me as well. The Para and the full sized Military are two of my favorite Spydercos. Since you don't mind slipjoint you might also take a look at the UK Pen Knife, another favorite of mine. All three are very ergonomic and carry well in the pocket.

the para should do great in the woods, my milie does great, and since para has essentialy the same blade, only smaller...
i would love the para with a liner or frame lock...

A para with a linerlock....pretty close to the tenacious as I see it. ;) Me I love it (tenacious)

there is always the police or rookie models if you feel that the blade on the para is not long enough for you. Also there is still some foliage green cpm-D2 para-militarys floating around, I would recommend them.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and great advice... I just ordered a PE Delica 4 for edc, and am deciding weather I'll go with the military or para miltary after that.

Jack I certainly will bro... I'm going to put my Tenacious through the paces this weekend..there is no beating the flat grind for slicing.

Well to help you figure out which one to get I will list some main differences between the para and the millie: grip size: military is larger , lock: the para has a compression lock and the military has a linear, blade size: military is larger, weight: para is lighter

also the military comes in a few more options than the para, like digi camo scales and CF, but you can buy a cpm-D2 para off of Knifecenter.com cheaper than a regular para ( and they are instock)

and chances are if you buy either the para or the military and you don't like then you should easily be able to sale it.

Good luck with your choice
