Spyderco Nilakka Pekka Tuominen

Big fan of Spyderco (own many). Big fan of Pekka Tuominen (own zero). They've come together admirably! However, given the philosophy of so many Puukkot which is in the whole "nothing which is not needed is there" category...kind of puts me off of the trademark hole. Other than that, it sure is a beauty!

Update. About ten strops brought it back to wicked sharp. So, overall, I like the knife, just know it's not a hard use knife. Excellent slicer. Will let yall know how it works for food pre next week. Had a cracked wisdom tooth pulled and can only eat soft foods right now. Kinda hard to cut oatmeal or grits.

I absolutely love mine. Been carrying one for about 2 months, everyday, around the house, garden and at work( construction ). Been used to cut cardboard, zip ties, plastic straps, tarps. Just recently used it to shave some wood off the inside of a pocket door and to cut some drainage holes in the bottom of a thick plastic/ resin planter. It has held up with no problems so far.

It's knocked the Bradley, PM2, Southard and Breeden out of my pocket.

Not sure about a bevel. I'll update again tonight with how it does today.

I bought one of the early versions. It's a beautiful design with the impeccable fit you'd expect from the Taichung factory. I view it as a specialized knife for lighter use. If someone wanted to EDC it they could sharpen back the edge a little at a time until it gained enough thickness to cut harder materials. It's interesting that it's one of the thickest Spydies at the spine - 4.5mm - and also the thinnest right behind the edge.

Those are some great knives it's replaced! Says a lot...

(Jared, I hit you with a PM over at the Yard)

Just replied. Yeah, I'm drawn to puukko style knives though, so it may be that, but I really love it

I will say it slices cheese very well. Sharp Cheddar is what I'm having today.

Big UPDATE! I'm loving the knife. It gets razor sharp with a few strops on my jeans, but loses that edge quickly. It does maintain a workable edge for a good while though. Great food prep, slicing and mail opening knife. Its pretty much become my "office" knife. Handle is great, opens as smooth as my GB, sheeple friendly. I recommend this knife for the purposes I mentioned. Don't expect a hard use folder like the GB.

The knock I recall on S30V was chipping. Is it "losing" its edge by micro-chipping or is it just on the soft side ?

I have always had my eye on this knife. As stated, it is quite beautiful, but I do like to carry a blade that I can use for a variety of needs and it just does not seem like the best choice for that EDC-type role. I will be sure to snag one though if they are announced to be discontinued in the future :D

The accounts I've heard suggest that the very edge is getting too heat stressed (and thus softer) - but as you re-sharpen and wear it back slightly, you get into steel that is in better shape. Its performance should continue to improve over time.
