(Spyderco) No Business to Internet shops?

Dennis,
I can't speak for Joe, but I've seen you at the CP show a few times. Never noticed it was you until I asked you for a business card at the last show. You have too many knives to look down at for me to look up at your banner.

Dennis,

That has to be one of the best descriptions of the problem and how MAAP came into being that I have ever heard.

Thank You.

Sal, remember also us who live outside the US. If it wasn't for the internet dealers I would not be a proud owner of a plain edge Peter Herbst model! I had contacted the Finnish importer about this knife and they replied that not a single Peter Herbst model had been imported to Finland.

Also IMO these knives are over priced here. I would not be able to afford any of the better Spydercos even if they were available.

And as a final note... if I'm to buy a knife from an internet company outside Finland I would not just look at their price. Other factors (like customer service) are important. But no, I can not say that the price would not be a important thing as we'll have to pay about 33% in taxes and customs for the knives (and that's for the shipping also)

. But still most of the time the knives would be much less if ordered through the internet from the US companies than what they are here - so you understand that I feel the knives are a bit over priced here.

Thanks for your reply, Dennis, you said it better than I did in the huge ugly thread.

I read all related topics and I have to say: I agree a little with everybody. I understand the dealers with high overhead but I only buy through the Internet. And I am looking deliberately for the lowest price. I do not care for the service. I live in Europe and I will never send the knife back - I could not justify the cost for shipping (I am not talking about customs..). For example: Spyderco W. Goddard Lightweight costs almost $120.00 in our country. Would you buy it for that money?? So I buy it over the net for 40.00 or so. If something gets wrong - it is my problem - I am not going to pay $ 20-30 for shipping back to USA. And if I lived in US? Well maybe I would do the same....

Shootist16,

FYI - Green Military in Knoxville carries a great selection of Benchmades and also has a good selection fo Spydercos. I know from experience that if they don't have a model, they'll order it ASAP.

Gotta say, I kept seeing all this talk of MAAP and such, and was starting to get a little TICKED at Spyderco. DUH! That's what happens when an engineer tries to think business. Anyway, Dennis explained a lot in a couple of posts, and now I understand. Good job, to get through my thick skull.
