Spyderco or SOG

I have owned both SOG's and Spydercos. Right now, I own Spydercos, no SOGs, although I am sorry I sold my Twitch II, I should've kept that.

I've had, that I can remember, are
for SOG
Twitch, Twitch II, Twitch XL, Flash II (one black blade, one satin blade), Powerlock, Seal 2000, Seal Pup and the Blink

for Spyderco
Ladybug, Meerkat, Jester, Cricket, Endura, Delica (one 3 series, one with AUS8), Military (my current one with black blade, one with ats55), Manix, Salt, yellow Pacific Salt, Native(one 440v, one s30v, one black blade), Native III(one SE, one PE).

Out of those, I've kept the Military, Manix, Native III and Pac Salt. I plan on getting an Endura and maybe another Delica, both series 4 FRN. I'd also like to get more Salts. Like I said above, I'm looking for a Twitch II now also. My assisted opening SOGs were neat, but just not me today. I think they performed fine, just not my cup of tea. To each their own. I should add that when I sent in my Twitch II, SOG took great care of me. But, so has Spyderco when I sent my Native III in.

I just picked up 2 flash IIs and have found them to be great knives. I have always been a BM fan, but for the past month I have edc the flash II. The blades shoots out like an auto, with no blade play. I must admit I was not thrilled about the zytel handles, but the feel comfortable, and have held up well this past month. I have opened it 1000 times and used it hard to try to see if I could wear it out, and if any thing It opens faster. The spydercos I have had I really liked them, but traded them off. I have been looking at getting the scorpius, I used one from the pass around (thanks Bladeforum) and feel in love with it and will get one sept.9-10 th at the next gun show.:D . This is just my 2 cents. Both knives are good knives (spyderco may use a better steel, but aus 8 is not a bad steel either), it is a matter of what you like. keep in mind that you can always buy more knives. knives are a good investment, they will last you a lifetime and some models get pricey when they are discontiued.( I am not saying the flash or spyderco would be worth $400 in 20 years) but the buck 560s go for $100 or more and I bought mine for $40. I will stop rambling now and let others members post. John

I tried out my friend's Flash 2 today and I agree that it doesn't look as good as many spyderco's. It felt very light and the zytel felt more like a cheap plastic to me. I dont know about the aluminum one though. I like the Endura 4, especially the one with the stainless steel handle. The wave looks great too, but it looks like I would have to have a stroke of luck to get my hands near one. I like that it opens quickly without having to mess around with springs that can break or wear out. Will they do a stainless version of the Endura wave? Joe

Thx for all the advice. I post a thread at 11:00 at night and get people responding while i sleep!

DH: I keep hearing about a waved Endura but i cant find a site that has a picture of one and no one seems to have them in stock. Im guessing they aren't out yet. Do you know when they will be released?
Nighthawk, Tazkristi just made a post. She's a spokesperson for Spyderco. The Waved Spydercos has already started shipping.

I would say buy the one you like the most & for the most you can afford(check out the for sale forums here or a sponsor)

take a look at other makers also..theres a lot of good stuff out there..I like to hit the stores to handle them and buy elsewhere (unless its priced resonable)

Do you prefer Ford, Chevy, or Plymouth? Or are you one of those who prefers Dodges or Pontiacs? These are brand loyalty questions and subject to emotions and not reason.

P.S., I am a Ford fan, myself. I started rooting for Fords when Ford broke that stupid AMA (Automobile Maufacturers of America) agreement about open support of racing in the early 1960s and went into racing with both feet. This brought Chrysler Corp. into the game, but GM continued its hypocritical pose of publicly opposing any factory support of racing while both Pontiac and Chevrolet Divisions were working hand-in-glove with their chosen racing teams.

The Spyderco S30V Native, at $40 from Wally-World, is the best bang for the buck around, IMHO:thumbup:

I think the prices SOG wants for an AUS8 blade are a bit high. If they'd cut back on the jazz and upgrade some of the basic stuff, like steel and blade-centering when closed, I'd be more impressed. Their BG42 stuff was nice. But you can get excellent AUS8 blades from Beretta, yes Beretta, online for under $30 that perform very well.
