Spyderco para compared to Kershaw RAM

I agree, great review!

I own the R.A.M. but am going to pick up the Para Military as my next purchase. I think the R.A.M. is an awesome knife, both aesthetically, the speed of the flipper, the ability to use like a quasi-AXIS, the combination Al-G-10 handles, etc. So the bar is high. But some many rave about the Para I want to check it out.

this is a fantastic reveiw. i have been considerign the para or full sized milli for a while. i currently have the ram, and it is my benchmark for edc.

As others have said, you did a great job with this review, hwp. Any review/test is much, much more meaningful if you're comparing two (or more) knives; really puts things into perspective. And IMO it's very interesting that you chose these two knives, since they are so different in many respects.

Although I'm not particularly fond of the Hawk designs, I hold Kershaw in very high regard, their quality and value is just excellent. I've used and tested the same Sandvik steel that's in the RAM in a couple different models, and like it a great deal. Seems worth mentioning here that it's an unusually tough stainless, and takes and holds a very fine edge extremely well. CPM-D2 (I guess from other posts that's the steel in your Para, I didn't see that mentioned directly in your review however) may well be a good deal tougher than ordinary D2; I don't know from direct experience, but do know that it, too, will take an extremely keen edge with little effort. I would enjoy seeing further cutting tests, with both knives freshly sharpened.

Hope to see more reviews like this one ... very objective, and certainly opened my eyes, making me give serious consideration to two knives I'd honestly kind of dismissed and ignored. You may have just cost me about $180. :)
