Gentelmen,
My friend just received his new Spyderco Paramilitary 3.. Great knife but cutting edge is not symmetrical (visually) and it drives him crazy :-)

So he asked me to resharpen it. I checked the angle on both sides and... One side is 14.5 degrees and another side is 22 degrees (!!!)

WTF, Spyderco???

SO what would YOU do in this case - return... resharpen manually to 16 degrees/side or just don't care?

Thank you, friends!

And yes - simply googling this question brings a lot of unhappy comments on the same problem but never seen such a big difference.

I've reprofiled every Golden-made Spyderco I've received because of this issue (PM2, a couple Para3s, a couple Manix 2s, a Lil Native). 14.5 is exceptionally low, mine have been 16-17 on one side and 22ish on the other, IIRC one was closer to 15.
But yes, the way to fix it is to reprofile both sides. Or just get an exchange from wherever it was purchased.

I’m not slicing atoms. The symmetry is irrelevant to me as long as it cuts. Once it dulls, I would then reprofile.

I assume your friend did buy this from an authorized, trustworthy dealer, and not off eBay, Amazon, or other site where he might have received a Chinese counterfeit?

If you don't have the "right" equipment/skills, I'd just send it to Spyderco for resharpening which they'll do for $25 (including return shipping), if it's a genuine Para3. They might even replace the blade for free if they think that it's justified.

On the other hand, if it's a fake, some companies will seize the knife and not return it. So, if there's any doubt about the authenticity of the knife, you should call and ask Spyderco what their policy is about this.

That’s what I would do is go 16 Dps so it’s not so visually offending to the OP. Then on the next sharpening go to 14 to 15 DPS . Either way it will be a laser cutting mofo 😁
