I was wondering if my new knife was a fake or not. It says CPM S 30V on one side. It has a carbon fiber looking handle. Other side says Golden Colorado. U.S.A. Earth
I try and post some pics. Thanks

I believe they did a run of CF w/S90V. If your CF scales are after market it could be legit. Here are pics of the PM2 stamps bought from a reputable dealer with aftermarket CF scales.

Pictures? How much did you pay? Where did you buy it? With the limited amount of information you've provided I would say...

Unless they are aftermarket scales, it's a fake. If someone was selling a PM2 with custom scales, that would be something that you would think they would mention, as that makes it worth more. Some premium scale materials are pretty expensive, and sometimes cost more than the knife itself. Usually when you buy a knife with custom scale, people tend to include the original scales, because most of the time they have no use for them, since they're selling the knife. With that being said, if you bought it as new, and they didn't mention the custom scales, and they didn't included any original scales, then I'd say it's a fake.

I can't see much of the blade or scales, but the bevel on the blade looks "off" to me (too wide for factory), and I don't think Spyderco uses that carbon fiber pattern in their CF scales. Looks more like an aftermarket set of scales. OTOH, the logos and other blade etchings look factory good to me. Maybe a legitimate user that the previous owner modded?

Dale, that's not the OP's knife.

Chevy, it's either a mod or it's fake. Pictures really would help.

Well, I just confirmed that fake pm2's in carbon fiber are being sold on the Chinese site that sells lots of counterfeit goods... The pics show the blade marked s30v. This problem keeps getting worse. Unfortunately, I think it is likely that the OP got one of the new fakes.

I think it is a very good fake. To bad, I really wanted a carbon fiber spyderco knife. I guess I should have done more research. I only bought a few things off ebay. I guess this is what I get for an impulse buy. Now I am forever scared of buy any knives off the internet.

I'ts fake, one of the giveaways is the not inclined jimping.
I've seen better fakes tough...

I took a couple up close pics of mine to see exactly what looks different. Here's what I can tell.

- finger jimping on lower blade goes all the way to the handle, on yours it falls short

- FFG line shows lightly above the opening hole, doesn't look like yours does but could just be the pic angle

- there's a comma and a space after 'Golden' and also a space after 'U.S.A.', on yours it looks like a period after golden with no space and also no space after USA

Don't feel bad man, it's hard to tell without close up pics and the people selling the counterfeits obviously aren't taking close up pics. Why don't you just file a claim with eBay and get a refund?

Definitely fake. Unfortunately a little bit of research would probably have quickly raised some red flags. I am incredibly careful when thinking about buying a knife from eBay. Always research the model number and compare to the ad. Compare to other listings on eBay and also verify details with the MFG web site. It wouldn't have taken much to figure out that the C81CFPE2 has a S90V / 154CM composite blade so the ad and photos indicating the blade is S30V would have been the first red flag. Also just comparing the price to other listings if you don't know the current market price for a knife can uncover more red flags. There are a few "real" listings that are listed at significantly higher prices. If it's too good to be true on eBay it definitely is -- always walk away.

$100 is a tough lesson to learn but it could have been worse no doubt. At least you'll never make the same mistake again. :|

Contest it and get your money back. You thought you were buying a Spyderco and not a fake. They might get banned in the process?

And save up if you want a real NIB Para 2 with carbon fiber and S90V.

Go through PayPal and file a claim, should be fairly easy.
