Spyderco Paramilitary 2

Congradulations!, what a great knife. Before you start looking at different scales, I would suggest just to carry it for a while and enjoy it. The black g10 on the para 2 is my favorite. Just the right amount of grippiness.

I would think the Para 2 would be fairly easy to close left handed???

Use your thumb and pinch the comp lock?

its made to be closed with your right hand... just like most knives are, of course the axis lock is just as easy for lefties as for rightys... which is why I love my Bone Collector

Bad experiences?

I bought into all the hype and was disappointed. I felt the PM2 was just too big for my normal day to day EDC purposes. I didn't care for the clip, or how much real estate it took up in my pockets. I would take the cheaper, smaller Delica 10 times out of 10.

But your mileage may vary, the PM2 is a huge crowd favorite so clearly I am the anomaly.

It's certainly not a small EDC. I thought it might be too big but I've had no problem with it in my RF pocket.

My only complaint would be the clip. A wire clip like the Sage 1 would put the PM2 over the top.

And I'm right-handed but I just tried closing it with my left and had no problem.

Great advice!! I get carried away sometimes and want to customize knives before I evaluate their natural state...I'm going to keep the PM2 stock I think...

My EDC is a benchmade mini-grip 555HG and I love it...just ordered wilkins g10 grips so it will be a thing of beauty that can take a beating...the PM2 I just ordered is strictly excessive...way to big for me personally to be an EDC but it will be in to own and probably a back up knife in my camping kit or BOB...or just something fun to look at

I just got mine in the mail last week (1st spidy too)... trouble is... im just not lovin it like I thought I would.... Picture yourself being left handed... now, picture yourself trying to close the blade one handed... it just aint happening:grumpy:... Luckily though they make a Military for lefties

I am a lefty, I really like the compression lock. While it is easier (more natural) with the right hand there is a secure way that it can be done one handed with the left.

It is a bit too long for my comfort though so it gets minimal pocket time.

Now see, I dont think its too big for an EDC, like some do, maybe I just like bigger knives, or the fact thats its lighter than a few of my others, it doesnt seem too big.... either way, it is a very cool looking knife and it fits extremely well in my hand, maybe I just didnt give it enough time to get used to the lock, only time will tell

Just got it yesterday and getting used to the compression lock (wished it had some jimping on it); it's a bit smaller in hand then I thought it be, but it's a comfortable edc, though it does hand side to side play which I hope I can square away by tightening the pivot.

Given all the material on Spyderco Paramilitary 2's you won't have a hard time searching this forum for pics/scales/words of wisdom etc with regard to the PM2. Lets just say you've ordered one of Spyderco's finest folders, if not one of the finest production folders ever made (particularly when it comes to ergonomics).
I agree with that characterization.

Getting used to my PM2. Flicking it open. Then closing it. Repeat, repeat. Much to the annoyance of my wife who is trying to watch TV. I like it a lot, but the Griptilian is smoother opening and closing. We'll see how it all shakes out over the next couple months. No need to jump to conclusions about which one is better. Probably just rotate between the two.
Good luck with yours.

The PM2 is a great knife but it is not one of my favorites.
I just can't get on with the lock.
Most times I use my knives lefty and it just doesn't feel right.
I may try to Dremel some jimping to see if that helps.

I carry the ritter mini-grip regularly, and have had 2 of the regular mini grips in the past.

Call me crazy, but I much prefer the smaller, cheaper mini grips over the PM2.

thats quite the spyderco to start with. It definitely sets the bar high. Ive had a few over the years and love them all. Awesome knife

Get a deep carry clip for it and it makes it a perfect pocket carry. Several people make replacement clips here on the forums.

If it feels stiff or tight opening when you first get it, don't play with the pivot screws yet. That is actually a good sign and with a few days of opening and closing it and using it, it will start to smooth up and become great.

I just never could warm up to the compression lock. Great blade shape, really good slicers, good ergos and for me a very attractive folder. But I never enjoyed using/carrying them because of the lock.
