Spyderco Paramilitary

It doesn't seem my case... here some pics:

Veleno, the reddish color is a well documented effect of the cutting methods used to shape the thumb rest. As was mentioned by a previous poster, it is not rust, affects the knife in no way, and is just discoloration. It is nothing to worry about. :)

I don't see a "seconds" notch in your pics and can't help you on the blade centering either. :(

Mine was perfect, but then I somehow killed the washers and developed horizontal blade play..quick trip to Golden solved that
The red is from the laser blanking

I know, but not all of my Spyderco knives have a reddish coloration, for example my Military is perfect, so it would be nice if it was possible to avoid this consequence.

However I posted those pics to show the small notch of removed steel , it's an aestetich defect I think it's not common...

I understand the only real problem could be the blade play, but I like Spyderco even for its excellent finish. Luckily my complaints are only for the Para, I'm very happy with all of my other Spyderco. :)

My Para is 1 1/2 years old. Absolutely, no blade play. Blade is off center when closed, but that doesn't bother me at all.

I love the compression lock. By far, it is the easiest knife to open and close with one hand.

Overall great knife!

I just got my spyderco paramilitary, the blade is actually better proportion to the handle than I expected you couldn't really fit much more blade in their. conversely obviously that's a little smaller than I thought. But if it's my hand well not perfectly ocelot fits my hand about as well is anything spyderco makes just for comparison. But I love the way the blade is canted downward a bit like the military. Mine is black blade in serrated and although I cringe to admit it there is something of the secret operations running around in the dark with a hidden blade that'll cut through just about anything.:D To it for me. fit and finish are great fairly crisp serrations but not quite as sharp initially as VG-10 serrations. The only thing I would change how do this on a lot of spyderco's is to make the finger groove between the blade and handle a little bit wider. But actually works better than I thought from the pictures. I didn't like the compression lock when it first came out but I'm warming up to it very well. It seems very real, and very solid to me know.

The Military has a 4" blade and has a liner lock. The Paramilitary has a 3 3/32" blade and has a compression lock. The handle on the Paramilitary is a little shorter also.

My Paramilitary has developed a bit of vertical blade play (okay, maybe more than a bit) and the amount of play alarmed Garageboy... but since I know that blade play does not affect or indicate lock strength on the Para, I do not mind it at all.

Apparently if a Para does this it is "defective" and that would make it covered under Spyderco warranty. It is just a side effect of wear on the locking mechanism that should not affect the strength of lockup at all, so I would rather keep my Para in my pocket than be without it for awhile to have it fixed. Again, it does not bother me in the least bit, nor should it bother you. (Unless you are picky, which is okay, because I'm really picky about liner locks.) Also, according to STR the amount of wear on the locking mechanism seems to plateau -- that is, it wears for awhile and then it reaches a point where it has worn in enough that it doesn't feel like wearing down any more. From an engineering standpoint this makes sense to me.

OK now I need a SE para

Thanks guys :D

I really did get one :D

and I LOVE IT!

Great knife. Rock solid. Love the steel and handle. Some seem better made than others. If you get a lemon return t for another. Why should thatbe a problem?

Just another question.

Is there a difference between the plain and the black blade, or is it just personal preferance? Will the coating scrape off at all? What does everyone think?

Thanks for all the great replies.

I have used my black-bladed Para on all sorts of things... including aluminum cans. The only thing I have managed to scratch it on thus far is my sharpening stones when I slipped up. I have a satin-blade Para as well, and I can tell no functional differences. If you want a black blade by all means go for it. It won't scrape as easily as some other coatings, either.
