Spyderco Paysan (and Integral Knives)

I hesitated before asking here, but I have to admit I'm curious. What don't you like about Peter? I've been following him a while and I don't think he even posts anything that anyone could find objection to.

I don't have any particularly strong feelings towards Rassenti but I dont especially care for dealing with him based upon the few occasions I have in the past. I reached out twice over the years to inquire about purchasing a knife and just some overall information about his knives. He replied a single word one time and may have well done the same thing the second time. No effort to help me give him my 1k what so ever. Just a cavalier sentence or two that were really more or less ambiguous and obviously insufficient.

Secondly, hes on more than one occasion complained about and even slighted people that he claims misuse his knives by over flipping/fidgeting.

They're knife makers first and customer service representatives second or whatever other number on down the list....I get it, but, a little goes a long way. I dont want to have to feel awkward when I decide to sit on my couch and flip my knife every now and then. Especially after I've spent a ton of money on it.

There are makers like Sergey Rogovets, Jake Hoback, and Eugene from Olamic that will answer your emails personally, thoroughly, and with care. Who want your business, provide a product without the hype, and engage with their customers. I prefer dealing with them.

I've owned one custom Rassenti and it was nice but not so nice that I didnt sell it to buy other knives. YMMV.

Nah that's fair. I own a few pieces by Peter and I'll admit his customer service sucks. I've always just chalked it up to the fact he's an artist and probably prefers polishing his craft than dealing with people. He's just not responded to me before, even after I've bought stuff from him in the past.

Now that I think about it, I may just make exceptions because I know people like that and I assume other artists are that way too sometimes. I'll admit that Olamic, Haback, etc have fantastic customer service. Hell, even Elishewitz got back to me pretty quick before, and it wasn't even about anything he did anymore so no sale was possible.

I guess I'm trying to say that I think your take is valid, but I just give a lot of slack to artists who actually do what they say they will do and never rip people off. That may be a low bar to set, but we can just hop down to the feedback thread to read about a lot of bad actors.

Rassenti may not be the warmest artist in the world, but he's super honest, never screws anyone, and takes his work seriously.
