Spyderco persain

Congrats Gramps,

With buying such great knives.
I think you will use the (underestimated)Stretch the most. His flat grind
blade makes this the perfect day to day EDC.

Thank you, Cornelis. Ever since I first laid eyes upon the Stretch I have wanted to make it my EDC. The size, to weight, to blade length ratio seems about perfect, and since I am unlikely to make any "tactical" draws from my pocket, the kraton inserts concern me not. I am really looking forward to this knife....yet it has been discontinued in the new Spyderco catalog. However, I have read over on the Spyderco forums that Sal is going to make some alterations to the Stretch, and plans on re-issuing it; I believe one change being contemplated is to "switch out" the kraton inserts for some other less "grippy" material.
Notwithstanding, I cannot wait for the upgraded version...and must have the current Stretch now before it disappears from the marketplace. I fully intend to make it my EDC, and will report back on my impressions once it arrives.

-cheers

Hi Gramps,

Hope you enjoy your "Stretch"

I must admit that the Stretch ws one of my bigger disdappointments in sales. I designed the model to be the perfect EDC for the Afi ELU. (aficianado End Line User). I thought it had all of the right stuff.

but it didn't well well at all. :(

The new version is probably not going to be big either, but it's extreme. It will be quite expensive with ZDP and carbon fiber materials, but one I expect to carry for many years to come.

I use my Stretch hard. The "obverse" krayton is missing and the "reverse" krayton is worn almost smooth but Spyderco W&R sent me a new set of inserts free of charge. I just haven't sat down and glued them in yet. Mine is combo-edge. Very handy knife. Looking forward to the new "pimped" version in ZDP with CF inserts. That will be way kool. Hopefully Sal mis-spoke concerning downsizing this folder. Current size is perfect imo.

Hi Harry,

Little change in the pattern or grind, a slightly longer "butt" to accomodate the E4/D4 clip. Just materials changes.

.....It does have all the right stuff for some. However, I can certainly understand your disappointment with slow sales, and also the frustration that must come when you put such commitment into development and execution and then are forced with making the difficult decision to discontinue production. I don't know...but the effort is apparent to me in the end product......and others apparently too appreciate all that the Stretch offers.
However, I know you will do what you need to do next, focus on the evolutionary process..and I am certain the newest incarnation of the Stretch will be even more remarkable.

And then 10 years from now....when everyone "anoints" the discontinued Stretch as "one of the best models Spyderco has ever made:".....you can smile...and think to yoursef...where the heck were all these folks ten years ago ? ;) ..Sprint Run.

-regards

Amen, Gramps!

Sal,
I don't remember hearing any complaints about people having problems with the Kraton inserts in the Pro-Grip series, or the original Civilian models, so why is it that the Stretch's Kraton inserts have been the subject of many a post? FWIW, I have not experienced any problems with any Kraton insert Spyderco I own (Pro-Grip, Pro-Venator, and Stretch). Just curious.

Yes sir, I'll second that. To me the stretch needs no improvement.

Thanks, Sal. I was a bit confused by that, too.

And if there are changes, please a bit thicker handle.

You don't like the thin handle on the Stretch? To me, that was one of the biggest selling points for that model.

I like the Stretch as it is, but since I have big hands, I like some more "filling
up" the hand. I dont understand why the Stretch was a priori under-
estimated.

Best regards,
