First experience dealing with Warriors and Wonders. WOW! Shipping took less than 24 hours. I'm used to waiting 2 weeks for my knives to come all the way from the states. This was a VERY pleasant change of pace.

The Persistence is of EXCELLENT quality. It is absolutely solid. ZERO blade play in either direction. And I mean zero, there is not even the tiniest wiggle. The liner lock is relatively thick and engages entirely, but there is still some room for wear. Blade opens up very smoothly, I just realized that if you look through the pocket clip holes, you can actually see the bronze bushings :D

The edge is very, VERY sharp. I just tested it and it will shave. They put a lot of effort into drilling out the liners to save weight. I was surprised to see that on such an inexpensive knife. There are 5 big holes drilled in the non-locking side, and 6 smaller ones in the lock side.

This is by far the most functional jimping I've ever felt. I always watch review videos and they complain about the jimping on almost every knife and I always feel mine and think to myself "what are they whining about, this is fine". Now I know what jimping should be like.

I've put it side by side with the Boker Trance because IMO that is its number one competitor. They are right around the same price and size.

The G10 is superior to the FRN on the Trance, and the liner lock is only very slightly thinner than the frame lock. For lefties it is a no brainer because the Trance is only drilled for right hand carry. The Persistence has WAY better jimping, but the Trance's flipper acts as a finger guard.

The Trance has been a favourite of mine for a long time, but I think I would have to give the edge to the Persistence (hehe, I'm punny). Although I am almost always biased towards whatever knife is newer, so take that with a grain of salt. In any case, it is a very tough decision, both knives are excellent and easily worth twice their asking price.

Now I have recently developed a little bit of an obsession with polishing G10. I purchased the Persistence with the intention of giving it a polish job similar to my RAM and Skyline:

I'm thinking it would look pretty awesome. Basically I'm trying for a budget Sage :D I'm not worried about losing traction or anything like that, if I want a hard use knife, I can always grab my Trance or JYDIICB. I think I might even take a shot at polishing the blade because it's halfway there already and doesn't have any kind of coating on it.

Well I've never tried polishing a blade before, so I went and grabbed some junk knife I had in a box in the garage. I couldn't believe the result after 3 minutes of work.

These pictures suck, it looks way better in person. So I'm not too worried about the blade, I think it will turn out nice. Any ideas on how I could preserve the Spyderco logo? I'm thinking it will probably just get polished off, not sure what it will look like after, but I don't really see any way to avoid it.

I just got won the persistence on ebay for 28 bucks, i should get it any day now..i am excited because its big brother the tenacious is such a great knife for the money....Persistence being a tad smaller makes it the more ideal edc knife!

Just thought I'd let you know, the reason shipping was so quick is warriors and wonders is located downtown Vancouver B.C. not the states

Nah, polished blades look goofy to me.

I'm almost definitely going to polish the handles, still deciding on the blade.

oh I know. It's only about a 3 hour drive away. But it's never the shipping that takes time, it's the sitting in customs for a week.

Well I got bored and said screw it, time to polish the G10, after all I did fully intend on doing that when I bought it.

Some BEFORE pics:

*note the odd dark/light stripe pattern, as it persists after polishing.

Taking it apart was rather frustrating. I got the clip off no problem, but then two of the scale screws stripped. I got really worried/pissed off for a bit, because they are flush, so it's not like I can use a dremel to slot them like I normally do for stripped clip screws. Luckily removing one screw from each side still allowed me to take the knife apart, each scale was still attached to its liner with one screw, but I just polished it with the screw still in there.

I didn't bother taking in progress pics because the process is exactly the same as what I did with the Skyline (linked above).

Anyway, it went back together with no problems and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I'll add the usual disclaimer that it looks much better in person that it does in the pics.

Finished Persistence with my ballin Integy hex tools:

I think I've decided against polishing the blade, I don't think it suits this blade shape/knife.

Just a quick question on the process. So you just rub down the scales with the sandpaper (getting progressively finer), then use a dremmel to apply some polish... And done? Do you need a dremmel to really apply the polish or could you just rub it in really well by hand? :p Does the type of polish matter (eg could I just use some flitz)? Liking the way the Skyline and RAM came out.

Yup that's about it. I'm not sure that you NEED a dremmel, but it would probably take a LOT longer without one. You should be able to find one for $15-20 somewhere pretty easily. Comes in handy for ALL kinds of stuff.

I'm not sure how much the type of polish matters, I just used wheel polish cause that's what I had around the house. Flitz would probably work fine, but I can't promise anything.
