When I read this thread of Gary Graley's, I realized the Pingo could be a formidable slicer: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1202041-Edges-and-points?highlight=Pingo+phone+book I didn't have any books handy to sacrifice, but I did have a phone book which was willing, so I gave it a try and was pleased with the results:

What do you mean by thinned the blade? Sorry I suspect this is a newb question. Tentative dibs n Cheer's.

I probably should've been more specific. What I meant here is that I put a fairly acute angle on the bevel when I first sharpened it, using a full belt progression on the Work Sharp Ken Onion. That makes it a better slicer and it is easy to maintain by touching up with ultra fine rods on the Sharpmaker at the 15 degree setting and/or strops.

The original pics didn't show the bevel line, so here are a couple more which show it has been widened as the angle was made more acute.

Thanks for your interest.

Andrew
